Before and after :D

Keep in mind im still in highschool haha and only had a camp job for about six weeks, so my budget as super low.
But this is how far i got for after owning a jeep for about 6 months.
Did all the work myself.
Most of the things i did to it i got my ideas from this very forum.
There will be more to come i have a very long list.

Like the black look. I'm thinking about getting some black rims myself.

JDsDream 09-18-2010 03:30 PM

Very nice, looks great.

Owen_TJ 09-18-2010 03:46 PM

Looks good, nice work...looks clean

I'm thinkin of pickin up some black wheels as well! Kinda likin that look.

essie92 09-18-2010 04:03 PM

I like the cut fender flares. Look much better IMO kind of gives it a bit of a lifted look. I did it to mine too!

jayc 09-18-2010 04:07 PM

Wow how much does this camp pay or are you GREAT at stretching a penny?!!! Your rig looks great and I really like the red on black look.

TjTheo 09-18-2010 04:14 PM

All i really did is pay for the crager 8s and installed them with the camp money. I got the mirrors from a junkyard off a yj. Then everything else i just painted and paint is pretty cheap :D

98-4Banger 09-18-2010 04:25 PM

dum question, how and what did you use to cut your flares i love the look!!

yjkid95 09-18-2010 04:33 PM

How many cans of paint did you get to do your hardtop. Mines a faded tan and I'd love to paint it black.

TjTheo 09-18-2010 04:33 PM

First i made a jig out of wood. It was shaped like an "L" so that i could run it on the edge of the fenders and it had a pencil on top so it would draw a line about an inch and a half up. Once i had that line i took a boxcutter and gently scored the fenders. Then i ran the boxcutter about 3 more times going deeper and deeper. Then eventually the fenders peeled right off. And for the finished look i got some door edge molding from autozone and lined the fenders.

I think 5 is a safe bet, i used krylon fusion. I did 3 coats. You probably dont need as much cause your top isnt white im quessing, but you could always use the extra paint on the flares.

Did you even prime it or just scuff up the surface cleaned it up nice and sprayed? And I don't need to paint the flares. I'm saving up for some modern classic enterprise flatty fenders and taking the rear flares off. No tire coverage law in New York. :flipoff:

Uhhh i cleaned it for like and hour with water soap, more water less soap then more water, then i used a scotch brite pad and sanded the whole thing with that.
then i used some more water and a nice clean rag.
Then i ran paper towel all over it to see if i had any more dirt.
And finally a cotton cloth to take whatever dust off that was still on there.
Then i just went with the paint, no primer nuthin its been like 3 months and it's still blacker than most jeeps with hardtops i see. Didnt fade at all.

yjkid95 09-18-2010 04:51 PM

I've been a year out of highschool so I'm feeling the whole tight budget thing. Pinching your pennies does miracles though. Thats how I got the 350 and 700r4.

TjTheo 09-18-2010 05:04 PM

Yeah i wanna save up and get a used 250 or 450 Sports bike for starters. Ive always been more of a two wheel type of guy anyways.

Look for an older bike that needs a little fixing. Thats what I did with mine. All the aluminum had corrosion on it. It sat outside under a tarp for 2 years and the owner just passed away. I bought it from his wife for 200 bucks, rebuilt the carbs, polished up the aluminum got rid of the ugly farrings and fenders its turning out to be a nice bike and i havent spent over 200 bucks yet on fixing it up. 1980 yamaha xs850 triple.

ya i saw the pics, wondering how much you pay for it?

yjkid95 09-18-2010 06:57 PM

I'm out 400 beans for both of them. 80,000 on them both, runs, and shifts perfectly. I had to do a lot of talking to get him down to that though.

98-4Banger 09-18-2010 07:02 PM

you lucky B ! still worth the tlking haha did you swap it yet?

yjkid95 09-18-2010 07:20 PM

I havent swapped it yet I need to get a few more parts. The sad part is theyre the most expensive parts and again just out of highschool. I need the adapting kit to hook up my t-case to the transmission, I need the radiator, and after its in ill need to get driveshafts made.

98-4Banger 09-18-2010 07:39 PM

ah true true.. but ya i now wht you mean, i just got out also, try and picture this, i had my jeep all of june, drove it 6-7 days during the week to where ever.. in my bank accoutn i had 130 bucks, was gone in a week.... of gass, i was begging my mom for gas money lol im glad i got a job now, but im ganna have to watch my gas

yjkid95 09-18-2010 08:20 PM

Its tough to get the good stuff for the jeep man. I have my insurance coming up 600 beans out of my pocket, and my tires are almost shot so i need to get some new tires another 600 out of my pocket, then i have to get brakes done, and then i can get the rest of the stuff for the swap.

TjTheo 09-18-2010 09:40 PM
