Sick of lift kit's
 
I have been reading and researching lift kits for my 2014 JKU sport with manual trans, for about a month now and no closer to figuring out WTH I want. I have read the sticky's and all the threads by kjeeper10.

My issue is I want a 3" teraflex lift ok sounds simple. wrong Teraflex has like 12 3" lifts.

I want my lift done right and with good handling and minimal wear and having to replace parts every 2 weeks.

My JKU will spend most of its time on the highway due to living in west Texas with no trails that would test even a stock JK. I want good handling on the highway and around town. No I don't want a budget boost.

I want a good 3" lift kit with arms to correct angles do I need disconnect swaybar links probably not but sure it wont hurt.

Plan is to run 35" Nitto tera grapplers on 17" rockstar II's and I do want new shocks.

I don't need a lot of flex and I don't need a prerunner kit. I want a good 3" lift with all components needed to correct angles allow 35" tires and a good ride with out DW or bump steer or excessive wear on other components. I know that I will probably need new driveshafts eventually but due to my JKU being mostly a highway travel rig that will go to the river with little to nothing challenging I don't think the driveshaft issue will be that big .

If anyone has any insite or help I would greatly appreciate it. I am still digging through miles of threads so please don't tell me to search the forums, because I have been and still am I want to do this lift right.

This is not my first off road vehicle just my first jeep.

I know this is beating a dead horse and all you vet's are sick of seeing or hearing "lift help" but I could use a little more guidance from Jeep vet's.

Wait no, I take it back, no trackbar. Screw that. Dont get a Teraflex lift if they dont have exactly what you are looking for. If I was you I would get the MetalCloak http://www.metalcloak.com/JK-Wrangle...tem-p/7118.htm
in the 2.5" version.

If your going to be on road most of the time.... Go AEV or Synergy or rock Krawler with there new triple rate springs

Rock Krawler - I have the 2.5" stock mod with adjustable LCA's and Bilstein 5100's - great ride on and off road! Don't need a ton of stuff if you're not lifting too much - will clear 35's easily.

As for TeraFlex - wouldn't know which one if it bit me...sorry :)

Different lifts are for different jeeps. The 4 door requires different lifts than a 2dr. Hope this helps

You dont need a lift. Flat flares and 35s would look nice. Flat flares and 33s would look like you have a lift kit.

17" rockstars? Ill pass. I like a little meat on my tires :)

I went with the rock krawler on a rubicon. I am thinking aev for you if it is mostly road but.... If you are thinking teraflex, I will tell you to go with one of the vendors on this site. I priced teraflex, rock krawler and rancho I think and the prices are way better than you will find online.

I ended up with the rock krawler 3.5" X factor and I thought it was out of my budget till talking to a couple of the vendors on this site.

Based on your comment about use, I'd also say AEV. I put the 3.5" on my 2013 JK and am very happy. Rides WAY better than the original suspension. Mine was a 7 hour install start to finish with the help of some buddies. Simple, straight forward with good instructions.

I was in the same boat as you for just about as long of period. Almost to the point of saying screw it and leaving it all stock. Finally pulled the trigger and went AEV. Was the right choice for me and all said & done, would do it again.

I'm not advocating one lift being better than another, simply a suggestion based on the type of wheeling you described you'd be doing.

Thank you everyone for your post I will do some research on the AEV 3.5" lift.

I think I will pass on the $27,000.00 lift lol I think that was supposed to be $2740.99.

I am looking a the AEV lifts on quadratec and they are showing a 3.5" lift for JK with LHD or RHD.

dumb question what is the LHD or RHD is it left hand drive or right hand drive just a guess?

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't anything 2.5 and greater in need of driveways due to the placement of the new pentestar? Maybe the four doors get more room than the two doors in that dept I'm not sure.

Glad I'm not the only one....I think every newbie is having the same issues you are. My eyes hurt....my head hurts....I just said eh, screw it, I'll post on the newbie lift thread Kjeep10 (Sp?) developed. Now I need to look at AEV....

This is nearly as frustrating as dealing with salesman at the dealership!

Lift kits almost always provide more lift than advertised unless you have an unlimited overloaded with bumpers, armor, winch, etc.

Go with a 2.5" lift. If you like TF then go with their kit but there are several great 2.5" lifts: RK, AEV, MC and RE. If you spend your time on a rock pile then the RK and MK rule but if you want the best on the road then AEV is the best. TF and RE are more of a balanced design.

Have you ever been to west texas? I can see the curve of the earth its so flat here lol. More then likely I will never see a rock bigger then a soft ball around here unless I drive 8-10 hours so I will probably go with the AEV kit because I want a good ride. and I plan on replacing the bumpers which is why I am looking at the 3.5 as apposed to the 2.5

I had cv joint failure at 26k with a 2 5 inch lift......

You'll be fine with the 2.5 if that's what you want. I got 4 inches out of the 3.5 AEV & thats with a full skid system, one of the heaviest rear bumpers/tire carriers out there, sliders, etc. My jeep is not light.

As far as the driveways...I'm guessing driveshaft? I have 20k on my original driveshafts with the lift & I wheel & disco - they will go eventually, but it's not something that has to be done right away.

My advice to all. Read through my lift thread and learn what all the parts do. I made it simple and not over technical to give the basics. Any questions feel free to ask .... Good luck !!

When I start modifying mine I will go with the metal cloak fenders and add the larger tires to keep my center of gravity low. Maybe look into the fender recommendation as you will be on the pavement most of the time. That way you can research more! :pc-ouch:

This means you are doing everything right lol!

For pavement, I have heard folks highly recommend AEV or Teraflex. Also remember to budget for a new tire carrier, and consider regearing and armoring up the front axle to pull that bigger rubber.

PS I dont plan to replace my driveway for a lift. But I may need to buy a garage with a house lol!

Another vote for AEV 2.5. Installed it by myself in a day. Gave me 3" total lift and rides better than stock on my 14 JKURX.

Where in west Texas are you located?
