I want to get my Brother stuck...he drives a stock H3

so guys. I have a fairly stock TJ - 31'' BFG all terrains. My brother has a 100% stock H3. we are going to the local ATV park in a few weekends (SCOUT you have got to be there for this!!)

I will be disconnected and aired down. I doubt he will do either.

In reality, what are the things my TJ will do better than his H3. I know H3's are fairly decent offroad, but I really want to get him stuck, then pull him out...just b/c he's my brother :D

so what are my chances? I don't want this to become a hummer bashing thread, or a mrcarcrazy bashing thread....:zap:

If you know based on your experiences what a TJ does better than a H3 lemme know. I know the driver is the most important factor. I'm confident I'm a better driver, and I'm not sure he knows what 4Hi, 4LO are used for.

If I'm SOL, then so be it. we'll go out and have some fun. as long as he doesn't end up pulling me out, all is well.

clear lake jeepn 09-21-2010 02:14 PM

hmmmm...fairly stock TJ on 31's vs a locked H3 on 33's....ya'll give me a second to put my nomex flame retardant jump suit on..but I think he's gonna school ya!!

mrcarcrazy 09-21-2010 02:23 PM

locked H3 on 33's? don't think they have 33's or lockers stock...

Nope, his definitely doesn't have a locker (front or rear, or 33 inch tires...) Its a base model.

troll on over to another thread.

clear lake jeepn 09-21-2010 02:24 PM

yeah..pretty much standard on h3's

mrcarcrazy 09-21-2010 02:34 PM

interesting, I'm reading the Hummer forum. and that's not what they are saying. somehting about an "adventure package"

I sent him an email asking about his tire size.

IIRC inside he doesn't have any "locker" buttons that the hummer owners are referring to. (many are saying they added ARB lockers aftermarket.)

clear lake jeepn 09-21-2010 02:55 PM

dunno...wifes h3 came with 33's and rear locker..I thought they were all like that

clear lake jeepn 09-21-2010 02:57 PM

whats funny is how some people take the h3 so personal!!

mrcarcrazy 09-21-2010 02:58 PM

front locker became avail in 09. rear locker is avail as part of adventure package (offroad package)with 285 tire on all year H3 based on what I'm seeing.

trying to ensure he doesn't have that. he thought the noise when he pushed the 4HI button was the lockers...which it is not. so I think he is locker-less.

did you get the recall taken care of? that plastic hood thingy? My brother was telling me about it. said the plastic hood thing might fly off and kill someone...so it was recalled (I don't know the details)

anywho, if I can't get him stuck, it'll still be fun, I just thought it'd be hilarious. since he was commenting how he wouldn't even need 4WD.

Walkingstick 09-21-2010 02:59 PM

Oh trust me... You can get him stuck.

clear lake jeepn 09-21-2010 03:00 PM

no wonder my wifes cost so much

Too many blindspots on H3, just in my opinion but yeah a lot of dudes take vehicles seriously haua

mrcarcrazy 09-21-2010 03:08 PM

My brother wanted a Jeep and got the Hummer. mainly b/c the Cadillac SRX (is that the med. size SUV?) was dieing in DFW traffic, and leaving him stranded for hours at a time (went to dlr 5-6 times for this, before he traded it in.) GM gave him loyalty cash that made up for the money he was losing in the caddy.

I drove the cadillac and it was horrid. I've driven the H3, and its okay, I wouldnt want one....but I drive two vehicles that have no frills, and one BMW...so I'm a bit off.

I'm excited he even wants to go out and get it dirty!

firefighter777 09-21-2010 03:25 PM

Well to answer your question..your jeep would do far better than that thing on rocks or step hills etc but if your just going and playing in the mud I doubt that you will be able to go deep enough to get him stuck without getting stuck yourself. But also if hes 4x4 ignorant he may make a mistake and get stuck. But TJ vs H3....Tj everytime.

mrcarcrazy 09-21-2010 03:28 PM

Thank you firefighter777.

there are some short, yet steep climbs out there...I'll see if I can get him to try it out. I went up most of them last time so I know I can w/o any issue. there were two that made me nervous, so I didn't bother (A little too vertical for my lack of a real roll cage.)

I'm not very fond of the mud myself, you just have to go through some of it to get to the rest at this place.

GroundHawg 09-21-2010 05:12 PM

firefighter knows it...

the BIG advantage all jeeps have over almost all other 4x4's is the small wheelbase. this makes us outrageously manuverable off-road, which comes in handy during tight turns, and negotiating rocks.

there's a Hummer that gets wheeled near me, and you can think of them as a solid axle F150. traction isn't a problem, neither is power or clearance. but they are wide, and long.

the things you'll want to look for are high breakover angle climbs. you'll climb up easy, where a Hummer will bottom out the rear bumper. the shorter jeep gets all 4 tires on the hill easily since its what...3 foot shorter? same applies for decent.

look for dips and bumps, small rocks, and stumps. try to judge if your tj will fit 2 tires on it and make it over. the right size will high center your brother as the front tires will hit the grass before the rear tires get grip. crap like this ALWAYS gives hummers a tough time, and we get that guy near me with this alot.

lastly, find a tight area between trees or rocks and squeeze through. those monsters can't suck it in to get through. tight turns create headaches too.

ideal situations are decending steep bumpy hills, tight, narrow trails, small rocks up or downhill, or off-camber manuevers.

play that wheelbase against him

mrcarcrazy 09-21-2010 07:22 PM

Thanks Groundhawg. I know just the trail from last weekend....it has very tight turns (again meant for ATV's and motor bikes). strong ascents/decents. and ends with an offcamber descent that made me pucker a little.

cavediverjc 09-21-2010 08:37 PM

Disconnect, air down, and get to it. Just have fun. If he gets stuck and you get to pull him out, get pics, but be humble about it. Everyone hates a humble winner even more :D

Maybe he'll get stuck, get pulled out by a Jeep, get fed up with the Hummer hype, and trade it in on a Jeep. You will have successfully converted him to the Jeep community. Yet another reason to be humble about your win. :D

mrcarcrazy-bro 09-21-2010 08:43 PM

Sneaky Sneaky talking trash as if I wouldn't find out... :P If I recall I have more experience pulling your friends out than you do. But to add to the discussion, he is right I wanted to get a 4 door jeep (got 3 kiddos) but due to circumstances I got the Hummer. I like it alright, hell of a lot quieter, but way under powered. I don't have the rear lockers, haven't really taken this offroading other than stuff a jeep compass could do so it will be fun to try it out, my other offroading experience is just playing in the mud. So bring a tow rope I'm sure one of us will need it ;)

Bet you wish you had a top take down. :p
Just screwing around with you haha

mrcarcrazy 09-21-2010 08:47 PM

Hahahahahahaha.

That's hilarious. Damn you google!!!!

Speaking of tow straps. I do need one!

I figure scout can pull both of us out!

So chris, I know this perfect trail for us to go on. :D

KBR97 09-21-2010 08:51 PM

I hope you get stuck and your only resort is him to pull you out, lol.

J/K btw...kinda. Like the others said stick to narrow tight trails. Maybe he'll give up. He might have some better climbing ability due to his long wheelbase though, so watch for that.

It's not wheelbase for climbing... It's center of gravity.
Bes combo: lower to ground, lockers, higher power motor and short wheel base or not too long of a wheel base.
But then again I'm talking about a hill climb that isn't rocky and junk.

mrcarcrazy 09-21-2010 09:02 PM

I figure the only thing that will save me is him not wanting to scratch his hummer. My paint is already crap. So less to lose.

mrcarcrazy-bro 09-21-2010 09:02 PM

The H3 turns almost as good, a nice tight course doesn't overly frighten me. Ben find one that has alot of water, I like those :)

KBR97 09-21-2010 09:06 PM

Well as far as ledges and big rock...longer wheelbases will climb better.

Walkingstick 09-21-2010 09:06 PM

You guys should see my pAint... Looks like a Forrest raped it hahah.... a birds beak left a chip in my hood too.

Yeah that's where the longer wheel base comes in.
But I could beat a Jeep in a hill climb(true hill climb, not ledgey stuff) on my quad. :)

Did you hit the bird or did he peck at your jeeps hood?
