I just purchased my first Jeep its a 2001 4.0 Ive done research and it seems that the years 99-01 have a problem where the heads crack between the second and third cylinder. im not sure of those years but i think thats right. ive read alot about how to see if you have a cracked head and what the signs are. some of them are, loss of coolant or a rise in oil. also when changing the oil which i just did, if it is a milky brown color instead of the usual old black color, that is also a sign that a cracked head is possible. does anyone have advice. im going to be checking on the oil and coolant levels and textures for the next couple of weeks to check. thanks

It's true, they did have a problem with some bad head castings, but in my opinion it was overblown. I think the years affected were '00 and '01. '99 model years weren't affected. (as I recall, mfg dates of 10/99 thru ?) which would exclude '99 model year. Do a search here for more info.
