Body lift myself? Leveling?

So I was just wondering what all consist of putting in a body lift myself? I was thinkin a 1 inch or so. And is it fairly hard? Should I just have a professional place install it cuz they quoted me around 900 bucks to do it. And also what about a front end leveling kit, like the coil spacers? How hard are those?

Both are easy if you have a floor jack and a 6x6 block of wood. Just do the BL one side at a time and you won't mess up. But, I am no fan of body lifts :)

Buildembig is right. Both are simple...I never put a BL in and it took me all of about an hour. I havent done spring spacers, but have done a lift kit. With spacers, if you have spring compressors available that will just make the job even easier.

$900 is an insane amount of money for what little bit of work is involved with putting in a body lift. I'm in the wrong line of work if people are paying that... what a ripoff.

Do it yourself.

Thnks guys! I think I might just buy the bl and do it myself then. What all consist of puttin in a bl? Like in a nutshell what do u have to do?

Loosen the bolts on one side, lift up that side of the jeep, remove bolts, put in new bolts and spacers, drop it down, do the same on the other side. May have to adjust your transfercase linkage, I believe most kits come with the bracket to do this.

Okay! And I got a quote from the guys tht said it would be 900, and they put on there a motor mount kit? What's tht for? And also anything else I should worry about or check before I do the bl?

Coils pacers are a lot less work and give you the added advantage of gaining clearance for the undercarriage. You can usually find a good set of 4 for under 150. I did mine without spring compressors and it took me and a buddy about 2 and a half hours start to finish. Woulda been a bit easier with compressors tho.

They are probably talking about a motor mount lift. What this does is raises the motor to improve your drive shaft angles. It is a similar alternative to a transfercase drop kit that you will read about with suspension lift kits. This is also a fairly simple task. If you do it all your self, MML, BL, and Coil Spacers...you will be able to come out under 400-500 dollars.

There are a couple of videos that show exactly how to install the JKS body lift as well as the JKS motor mount lift. Some places will charge $500 to install the body lift alone which is a rip off. Do the work yourself and watch the videos.

The reason for the motor mount lift is because if you lift the body, you will have to reposition the fan shroud as the shroud is attached to the body. If you lift the motor up an inch you will use the same position to reattach the shroud and you get an additional inch of ground clearance for the oil pan. You may also have to add a bracket to the transfer case shift linkage but raising the motor up eliminates that as well. Also, if you do a small suspension lift, the motor mount lift will improve drive line angles so you will not have to lower the transfer case as many need to do to eliminate vibrations.

Use it for other upgrades for the Jeep e.g. armor and recovery ;).
