Idea for an easy fix to bouncing hood
As all Jeep owners know, the hood bounces around when driving against windy conditions. A recent thread about this had some great suggestions to reduce the movement and I just thought about a very easy way to stabilize the hood when driving against the wind.

Any fix to reduce hood movement while driving would probably reduce unnecessary stress to the hood hinges and the hood itself.'s what I'm planning....

I will fabricate some rubber pads that are slightly thicker than the gap between the hood and the grill when shut and glue these pads to the places where the hood shuts so that there will be pressure/resistance when clamping the hood shut with the hood latches. (I still have to figure out the best thickness of the rubber pads to cut and glue so that the hood stays shut with no wobble at all).

This has to be good for hood parts, hood, hinges, latches, etc.

What do you guys think?

Or just remove the spring.

hmmm....I saw that you mentioned that before.

What is the purpose of the spring?

Makes the hood bounce. :D

I guess the spring is supposed to provide the resistance that I suggested that the rubber pads would. The spring is just too spongy.

:D I removed the spring over a year ago and put a "trunk" rubber gasket across the "sill"(replace that wimpy one) and my hood doesn't move--at all and thats on Hiwy 58 (Mojave) with winds/trucks-

Cheap fix, I've heard that the latch replacements get weak after about a year--I don't know for sure--mines fine without the latch change !!

:rofl::rofl: JIMBO
