Casio's G'zone Rock
For the last year I've been using the Envy Touch above.
It's a great phone.
Probably the smartest "dumb phone" out there IMO.
It's also been a real pain in the a$$ because of always having to worry about breaking the large outer touch screen.
I've constantly had to baby the damn thing.
It would be okay if I was some office jockey,
but it's really not been very practical for me out in the field.
I finally got sick of having to live like that,
so I went out and bought a new phone last night.
I bought the G'zone Rock.
What a great phone guys.
It's a very solid hard plastic build with a rubber outer coating.
Shock resistant, Heat/Cold Resistant, Water Proof, bla bla bla.
Essentially it is built to Military Specs.
The call quality is great.
People say I sound much better than I did with the Envy Touch.
(That part is weird, you'd think it'd be the other way around.)
The speakers are loud and on the outer side of the clam shell,
which is nice.
It makes it easier to hear it ringing in a noisy environment.
There are plenty of neat little outdoor tools in it.
Compass, Thermometer, Walking Counter, Sunset/Sunrise, Astro Calender....
And still has navigation if you need it.
+ a flashlight. lol.
I'm a very picky person when it comes to devices/electronics and what not.
So far I can't find anything that I don't like about this phone.
The only thing that erks me a bit are some of the menu icons.
See...that's getting pretty picky isn't it?
This phone is definitely a keeper.
It'll serve me good for work and Jeep'n,
and I'll no longer have to worry about breaking anything.
Then...I can just use my Envy Touch on the weekends or nights when I'm at home. :)
the reason for this thread is to just let people know that
Casio and Verizon are phasing this phone out of their line-up right now.
Not because there's problems with it or anything.
It's been out for about a year now and Casio has already launched the next model to replace it.
I guess it's being replaced by the G'zone Ravine.
I compared the two side by side at the store,
and they have pretty much all the same features.
The Ravine is a bit thinner and might fit into the pocket a little easier,
but other than that I didn't care for it.
There isn't an auto-open button on it, it doesn't come with a cradle,
the clock on the front is just a cheap backlit display like an old a$$ digital watch, and there's a funky red ring around it that makes it look even worse.
Here's the Ravine:
In my opinion,
if you want a rugged phone like this,
go out and buy the G'zone Rock while you still can.
What they have left in the stores is all there will be.
Comes with the hallway motion detector, correct?
I want that phone
Wondwr if it would work with a wisper mic.
I use a G'zone ver1.0 lol....being a verizon agent I have to take what I can get most of the time :)....the casio series are by far the toughest phones you can get
I haven't had time to really read the book,
so at this point I don't even know what that feature is for,
or even how to activate it.
As for the whisper mic, I have no idea.
What are these 2 additional features for?
AWSOME PHONE! ... We get them for out Police and Fire dept users.... they haven't broken one yet and those guys are hard on equipment.
The detection device warns you if someone is creeping up on your OP by sending a vibrations into your mic(if in).
I want one becauae I love the gadgets on it and eventually that detection device will come in handy
