33's on stock wheels

I am thinking about buying a set of 33's tomorrow. I have a 2 in BB now and I will not be offroading until I get on my 1 in BL and MML. My question is would I be able to squeeze in the 33's on my stock canyons without running wheels spacers until they come in or will it rub or worse not clear? I know that I have to get the wheel spacers but I will be itching to get the tires on the Jeep as soon as I get them and wonder if it will be ok until I can get some?? Thanks

affende 03-10-2007 12:08 AM

depends on the width of the tire ... my 1250s rub the control arm at full stuff and full lock very slightly on a 4" bs rim ... on the stock 5" - 5.5" BS rim .... an 1150 would be as wide as you wanted to go

Rawkon 03-10-2007 12:42 AM

i have a 33x12.50 on a stock rim for my spare tire. this is until i get a new black steelie.

It most likley will rub like crazy on my control arms while turening but it will get me off a trail in the mean time.

jherrin215 03-10-2007 02:17 AM

I was afraid it would be too much tire. I am getting 33 12.50's I guess they wil just have to sit in the garage until I can get my spacers ordered :( Anybody know the best/cheapest place to order the spacers I will need??

Hank 03-10-2007 06:22 AM

Have you thought about getting some of the black steelies? They're only about $50 each and I'm sure you'd spend that much on spacers.

jherrin215 03-10-2007 10:22 AM

Yeah I did think about it, but the money is not the reason that I want to keep the stock wheels. 1st I have heard a million stories about how the steel wheels won't balance, how the will bend and how they just don't really hold up. And 2nd i love the way they look on SOME jeeps but I just don't think I would like the way they look on mine. I don't think I would like the black steel with my color with the painted fender flares. If something happens to my color matched flares and I get different flares I will probably leave them black and then change wheels to black steelies. And 3rd I really like the way canyons look with some meat on them. I would have to say they are my favorite stock wheels next to the rubicon wheels but then you get into 16's and I hate buying tires for 16 inch wheels and up!!

nicolas-eric 03-10-2007 10:53 AM

33x10.5x15 will fit.
i think 33x12.5x15 will rub. you have to modify the steering with some washers for that.

Rawkon 03-10-2007 10:57 AM

In my case my black steelies have held up great. ive beat the piss out of them. the lip of the rims are just about all shaved from rock rash, Ive jumped the jeep once in the dunes (got about 3 feet of air) onmy last run i slid down an off camber ice patch about 3 feet and wacked my driver side rim into a big rock. it sounded like something exploded when it hit. i pulled up got out and looked and all was well, just another scratch.
as far as balancing any good shop should be able to balance any rim as long as its not out of round. and i havnt seen a out of round black steelie yet

jherrin215 03-10-2007 11:45 AM

That's cool, I can't remember who was talking about it, I might be wrong and if I am I apoligize but i think it may have been amerijeep talking about having to get like 8 rims to finally get 5 that were good enough to balance out perfect.

Rawkon 03-10-2007 11:49 AM

no need to apologize. just take my experience into account along with the negative. maybe i got lucky.

jherrin215 03-10-2007 11:55 AM

Oh I definitely do. I like to hear both sides of everything if it is something I am thinking about buying. I know someone has had a bad time with even the best products in the world, and some people will swear there life on something just because they like the way it looks!! You have to listen to all opinions then ulitmately just do what you think is best.

for spacers i would loook at ebay first. from memory they had 2" spacers for 99 a pair so 200 for all 4 wheels. Quadratec has them also but they want 99 for only 1.25"

jherrin215 03-10-2007 12:29 PM

I think all that i will need should be 1.25". If my canyons have 5" of backspacing and I add 1.25" spacers that would give me about 3.75" of backspacing. That seems to be what everyone seems to agree as a good amount of backspacing.

Triple88a 03-10-2007 12:33 PM

even for the 1.25 i would still check ebay first.. 50 bucks is better than 99 for a pair i gues. If you dont receive ur product with paypal you can get your money back but i never had a product from ebay missing or not arriving just look at the persons rating on top and read his/her feedbacks.

jherrin215 03-10-2007 12:53 PM

Yeah, I am a believer in Ebay. But I do know you have to be careful. My mom bout a diamond ring on there and got a good deal. When they told her it had to be paid within 3 days and they didn't accept paypal she went out and bought a money order for 900 dollars and priority mailed it to them AT a PO box. She was asking for trouble and she got it. Lost the whole 900 bucks and had nothing to show for it. You have to be careful and have some common sense and realize when something seems to good to be true it usually is.

Oh and by the way yeah I looked at Ebay and I can get a complete set with matching lug nuts for about 120 shipped. Thanks!!

Triple88a 03-10-2007 01:47 PM

unless they accept paypal do not buy it. If you buy with money gram or western union or anything unless you personally know the person. Its like handing money to some person in the mall and saying when you get home can you call me 666-666-6666. Obviously that person will take the money and you will never hear from them. There is no way to get your money back while you can with paypal.

mrbigjeep 03-10-2007 09:54 PM

get 33x10.50's

jherrin215 03-10-2007 10:10 PM

I just really like the way the 12.50's look. It would be much smarter to buy 10.50's and don't add spacers but I am afraid I won't like the width. Anyone have pics of a jeep with a 2 inch lift and 33 10.50's?? Thanks

nicolas-eric 03-10-2007 10:22 PM

2" lift with 33s? you don´t plan to offroad, do you?

32s with 2" lift still rub very much when disco´d. the already rub a bit with 2" BB and 2" BL (i don´t want to extend the bumpstops because that decreases theofroad capabilities).

here´s a TJ with 33x10.5x15 and stock fender flares with 2" BB and 2" BL:

Triple88a 03-11-2007 01:00 AM

those fenders look too shiny to have seen offroad what did u spray them with?

jherrin215 03-11-2007 01:17 AM

I won't be doing any hard offroading. Just playing around a little. I am doing a 1 inch BL before I take it offroad. I will probably run Disco's but I will extend the bumpstops, because I don't want the tires getting into the painted fender flares. I owe too much on it now to get out and tear it up so my offroading will be weak at least for a couple of years until I can afford to Break and Repalce parts!!

Toyz 03-11-2007 12:27 PM

The best price I could find was from Red Rock 4X4.
$99 includes shiping!

Triple88a 03-11-2007 02:03 PM

Keep in mind Toyz those are only 2 so you need 2 more... 200 all together :)

jherrin215 03-11-2007 04:49 PM

I found one set on ebay for 130 or so with shipping and all lug nuts to hold spacers to hub. I think I saw some cheaper but they didn't have lugs and I didn't notice shipping. And that's for all 4

jp'rs_peep'rs 03-11-2007 08:05 PM

How about purchasing a used set of alum rims in the for sale section that fit your requirements. There are people selling stuff all the time. Patience and preserverence can really pay off when it comes to stuff like this.

I just really like the canyon wheels. I wanna keep them because of the looks. I am usually not a fan of stock wheels but I haven't seen any wheels that I even really like that aren't already on 100's of Jeeps so why not keep the one's that I have if I already like them better than aftermarket ones and not spend the extra money??

Triple88a 03-11-2007 10:23 PM

I'm searching under "wrangler spacers" on ebay. TJs bolt styles is 5x4.5 right?

I would not use any wheel spacer that is not wheel and hub centric. This is an internal and external lip on the spacer to aling the hub, spacer and wheel exactly before the lugnuts are tightened.

If you look closely at this Trax spacer you can see the alignement lip. These are also anodized to control corrision.

I found this set and it said they were hub centric whatever that means. they don't have a lip like that but it says they are for this vehicle. I don't know if they would be good, but they are about 1/2 the price of those others.

Triple88a 03-11-2007 11:27 PM

hmm i aways thought thats why the nuts are tapered on one end to align the rim, also thats why you tighten the nuts in a star pattern.
