Newbie with soft top lowering problem

I just purchased a 2001 TJ Sport. I has a soft top and soft half doors. Looking through the owners manual, it shows that after removing the half doors and moving the sunvisors to the side that I'm the unlatch the clips from the header. My problem is that the clips won't release as they are secured with a bolt and nut assembly. The nut is behind the clip so I cannot access it to hold while I try rotating bolt. I tried to ratchet the bolt, but I could see the nut doing its job and spin with the bolt. My manual doesn't show the nut and bolt on clips so I assume this is an aftermarket top and any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

This means that your top is an aftermarket top,as opposed to an O.E.M. Jeep top.My Bestop Supertop is like that. What you do is undo the rear beltrail adjacent to tailgate,so the top can move forward, then pull the top forward from the windshield to release it from the windshield header bar(the part you see with the nuts and bolts)There is no need to unbolt the header bar-it stays on the windshield, and the fabric comes out of it!

Thanks for the quick response GoldTJ. Now do you unzip the window panels from the back and sides and untuck the top from the frame before pulling the front material from windshield? Thanks!

Where are you located, maybe someone local can help you.

Yes, remove the windows first, unhook the back and then remove the front.
