ACE rock rails

4 Attachment(s)
Just picked up a set of ACE engineering rock rails http://www.aceengineeringandfab.com/. I first heard of them on the JK-owners forum and I finally pulled the trigger on a set for my 4 dr JK. They bolt to the frame using existing body mounts and these things are stout! Thickest tubing I've ever seen on a rock rail! I can get my 260 lb butt up on these and jump up and down with no give at all! Also, the price was ridiculously low in comparison with other rails out there. Just thought I'd share a great find for those looking at getting some rails.

A few pics mounted on my JKU...

Looks good buddy. Can you flip them around so they also point down? Looks like my set of smitty's

No. They only mount the one way. I looked at the smitty ones before I got these, and the tubing thickness is considerably larger, and these were considerably cheaper.

As an added bonus, they also make a version that allows you to keep your stock rubi rails in conjunction with these. I got the standard as I don't have rubi rails on mine.

looks great!

How many mounting points are there? Did they add a third or are there still only two?

Still only two, but it's pretty stout! I guess if I bash it on something that will be the proof in the pudding as to whether or not it will do it's job. Shouldn't take long to find out either as we wheel this thing just about every weekend.

You're the first person I've seen with JKO and JK stickers. Your name isn't Tyler Durden is it?

Haha, no! I am a member of both forums (mostly for the classified sections and to get cheap DIY mod ideas). I was a member of JKF 1st and really liked the logo (replaced the X) and I tend to hang out more on JKO. I don't really get into the pissing contest between them, as I don't see the point of it. I also like it here. Different feel, different folks, different ideas. It's all good.

I installed my ACE rock rails the day I brought my 2012 home, a little over a week ago. They are great! Other than grinding the washer, not just on two sides but more all around, they went on fine. Anyone considering rails that can double as steps should seriously consider these.

Still two on 2-doors (only two body bolts to attach to?), Three on the 4-doors (three body bolts), now.

Adam, ----- Warning------

If you search for ACE rails, and read the posts, you're going to blush with embarrassment over the very positive opinions, and frequent recommendations of your product on this forum.... :thumb:

Are you saying we've got to order a *different* version to leave on the rubi rails? Even for the 4 door? Why can I not see that option on the website?

The reason I ask..... mine arrive on Friday. I simply ordered the choice available on the website for a 4 door......

You're golden. One version for 2-door and one for 4-door. Fit great with Rubi rails in place, and look even better!

ruggedCityJeep 09-20-2011 08:51 PM

They work with or without the Rubi rails. Install took about 30 minutes. Wife and kids use them as steps, so I added some 3m non-slip tape.

once upon a time when he first started offering them he did this, now they are all the same, just 2 or 4 door!

Adam, good to see ya on here! Love mine! they saved the paint on my rubi with only 40miles on it, already paid for themselves many times over!!

Thanks Bill. From previous posts, and the website, that was my understanding... this post got me a bit worried.... Can't wait! Pro off road, easier access to my rack.... and pro in parking lots  Woe the person that carelessly opens his door next to me :whistling:

Love these rock rails. I have been wanting to get a set for my 2 door jk. There so tough looking. After my coming two inch lift my wife will need these to get into the jeep.

They are heavy though. Everything adds weight. Are you gonna be crawling over rocks?

For me - the weight added (like 80 something lbs. for the 4 door - according to Adam) is out-weighed by the protection I'll get.... and like having a mini ladder on both sides (roof access)

We all have different priorities :wavey:

If your crawling over rocks that could bend or damage your frame then they are worth it. If not :whistling:

What's an inexpensive tool that I would use to grind the washers? I don't have a large war chest of mechanical tools, so I'll have to pick something up at Lowe's.

SlackerMD 09-20-2011 10:42 PM

4.5" grinder from home depot or lowes for $30 plus $5 for a better grinding wheel to tackle stainless steel...and a six pack of beer for good measure
