MCE Flat Fenders - Semi LCG Build Recommendations
Playing with an idea...and just wanting a lil feedback...

I really like the MCE Flat Fenders and was thinking about doing a mild LCG build utilizing them especially using them in conjunction with the headlight kit that someone recently posted about that has the turn signals built into them.

What I'm considering is a semi-low budget build doing this to get the biggest tires I can without losing any/much flex, cutting only what's needed for the MCE install, and installing as small of a lift as necessary.

So questions are...

If I install the MCE Flat Fenders, how big of a tire can I go without rubbing on stock height or a 1.25" BL...can I do 33's/35's. What about with say 2-2.5" of lift (and once again 1.25" BL so I can do the MML as well).

If I upgrade to 35's on a build like that, what would be recommended to upgrade as well for a mild off-roader/mostly DD?

Obviously would need wheels with less backspacing, if 33's no huge need to regear right away but 35's I know regearing would be almost necessary...speedo reprogrammed/adjusted...what else?

If you can't goal with this is to do a great build RIGHT without spending a ton of money which I think the MCE Flat Fenders can make entirely possible.

Maybe you scared everyone off with your timing belt questions the other day. ;)

Okay, so I cannot provide useful information. Sorry about that. But I am also curious to see the answers to your questions, so I hope someone knowledgeable chimes in. (I also harbor feelings of good will toward you simply because you're in Piqua, which means I doubly hope you find the answers you seek.)

Hahaha no kidding...and thanks...hopefully somebody decides to answer them before the summer of 2011. You know of Piqua? You have my sympathy...

I grew up in Houston. Being such a small town, we had to make regular trips to "the city" for shopping and such... and we generally preferred going to Piqua over Sidney. Furthermore, both of my parents worked in Piqua for most of the time we lived there. A few months into my senior year at Houston High School, my family moved to Huber Heights (though I got permission to remain in my class and I commuted for the remainder of the school year). My parents still live in Huber today.

A lot will depend on how much is cut from the underside of the fender when installing these. If you trim off all the vertical hanging down sheet metal (I think you do), I think you could get into 35's without much issue. Why not give them a call or email? They're very responsive to customer questions and comments.

I'll just offer this - If you go with 35s and re-gear to the proper gearing (probably 4.56) your speedo/odo will be correct, or very nearly correct, without having to adjust it. For example - when I had 3.73 gears with 33s my speedo was off, but when I re-geared to 4.10 it put the ratio back to factory.

One more thing - I just checked you profile and I see you are interested in installing a Detroit TruTrac. Great traction aid - I have them F/R. I suggest having them/it installed at the same time you re-gear to save on labor.

Thanks for your interest and asking the questions!

Unfortunately, I am a little hesitant to say exactly what will hit and what will clear as I just don't have a lot of experience yet with different setups. Also, there are a few variables such as bump stop length, spring rates, etc. I can say that one of our Jeeps clears 35"s with a Tuff Country 3.5" lift (no BL) and the correct 3.5" lift bump stops.

Also, one of our customers sent us in this nice pic of his TJ clearing 32x11.50s with a completely stock suspension. Granted, a dynamic (movement) situation could and would compress the tire up a little further, but he does still have some room as well as the fender's ability to give.

Also for note, my Jeep has an RE 3.5" (more like 4-4.5" actual) as well as a 1" BL. It also has a front Anti-Rock (but that doesn't seem to limit the flex much). I could loose some lift:

Actually, if I can get the belly clearance with a flat skid and raise the gas tank, I think my Jeep will be a much better performer overall with better control arm angles, especially in the rocks (notice the rear axle walking down and forward, shortening the wheelbase and raising the COG):
