Whats the $40 difference?
need a new speedo gear for my 33" tires. Dealership quoted me a whopping $80 for the part.

what's the $40 difference between these two, they both seem identical. if you click product details seems the only difference is the $74 one has a warranty is that it?

The words MOPAR make that $40 dollar difference. Seriously lol, and maybe quality cant attest to that though.

Mopar's speedometer gear pricing shot way up a few years ago for some unexplained reason. I'd definitely go for the less costly version and not worry about it.

ohsixteejay 10-21-2010 10:53 AM

good thanks as long as they will do the same thing I could care less if it says mopar, that's pretty ridiculous that the only difference is it says mopar for $40.

Check at a local 4x4 shop, I picked a used one for $25-30 bucks where someone had re-geared and needed to change speedo gear also.

IndyJeepMan 10-21-2010 10:59 AM

Why do nikes costs 100+? lol

Its all about brand names.. mostly. Most the time its quality when it comes to hard products like bumpers, lifts etc.

By the way, what axle ratio is in your axles? Some speedometer gear charts are incorrect so let's double-check that a 31 tooth gear is indeed correct for your 33" tires

3.73 in a d35

IIRC, the ones from quadratec are actually mopar units.
I am fairly certain that is where I ordered mine from about a year and a half ago and it was under $30 and the plastic it was in was mopar and said so on the labeling.

ohsixteejay 10-22-2010 08:45 AM

31 tooth is correct for 33's with 3.73 gears right?

Jerry Bransford 10-22-2010 09:33 AM

Yep, a 31 tooth is what you want. Here's one of the known accurate (GPS verified) charts and writeups on all this... Changing Your Jeep Speedometer Gear

The shop that did my gearing put in the speedo gear for me when I took it in for the 500 mile service and did not even charge me for the part or the labor.
