Tailgate what the deal?

The tailgate rattles violently when i drive over bumpy roads (which are basically everywhere where i live) i made some one drive my truck and i put the seats down and observed the tailgate, it seems like when theres a substantial bump in the road, the tailgate lifts upwards and in/out moving the glass panel also.

Is this normal behaviour? vie noticed that there is also some sag on the tailgate, it seems like it slopes downwards towards the actual handle, so when i close it it gets lifted up into the bracket, where can i check for any loose botls/damage?

Its dead silent over little bumps, and imperfections in the road, but when i hit substantial asphalt patch or something, the tailgate flexes almost.

Ill take pics of anything you guys may ask, im clueless where to start looking for a solution here.

sounds like the whole damn things gonna pop off…

07 jk 60000 kms
BONE stock, stock tire on tailgate. Never been touched still factory oem tire.
im the second owner, but from what i can tell this thing hasn't been offloading all that much, changed the diff oils, back one was dirty, front one was whistling clean.

is it tailgate sag, since its a 2007? What can i do to figure this out?

Thank you,
Panzo

Are the hinges loose? Can you move it by hand to see where the slop is.
Do you think it may have been wrecked before you bought it?

Are you sure you're getting it closed well? Sometimes if you just push it shut, it closes, but not all the way. You can also adjust the catch on it, iirc.

well as far as it goes, it doesnt seem its the actual piece bolted to the body thats loose, with the taigate open all the way i can make it jiggle at the hinges, but it is not the hinges bolted to the body which move it is the actual rod, or door assembly which is linked to the body hinge.

There is a nylon/rubber stop that can be adjusted to hold the tailgate tight. Loosen the screw move the stop.

Where are they located? on the door itself or the body?

bbarquist 10-25-2010 05:30 AM

near the latch

as far as i can see the only stopper i see is a black u shaped hard plastic piece which is held on to the tub by 2 bolts, right under the tub hook for the door, ill take a pic
