Personalized plates

If you custom order your plates online from the DMV, would u have to pay a monthly fee for them or is it just that one time?

Wat do some of your plates say?

In most states I believe it is an annual fee... I have "ROAD-H8R" on mine...

How much is the fee? I was looking at conservation plates and they are 50 $ annually.

toshpate 10-26-2010 02:16 PM

I've got several personalized here in MO, but none on jeeps as of yet...working on a witty one for that :)

My wife maiden name was "Gross" and 144 is also a "gross" so she had a plate made that reads "JEEP144". So I guess our Jeep is gross.

My E500 has MCBEAR though that changes in January, my previous CLK had SNAFU1 as seen below and the Jeep gets FOTOG.

Ours is an annual fee as well... it's around $45-50 in addition to the standard registration fee each year.

You have to order them, you can't just go pick them up.

True story.

MCDavis 10-26-2010 08:12 PM

In NC it's an annual fee.

Mine is "CMSW" on a Hurricane's plate.

Wife's is "WSMC" on a Kid's First plate.

Those are the first initials of our 4 children's names in age order both ways.

Ok, you can all stop gagging now... :D

Over the years I've had:

PCOFJUNK on a 79 Blazer with lots of rust and a 400 big block
IDOGLASS my profession, not my hobby
66STANG pale yellow convertible...great car
MCD RX-7 83 model...another great car

I've noticed that some people in this thread are saying that they have to pay a recurring annual fee every year just for having a custom (or vanity) plate in their state.

IMO.. that seems a little excessive!

Here in Pennsylvania, we are only charged a one time fee when you first order a custom plate. After that, we pay just the normal annual vehicle registration fee ($36).. and that single annual fee is the same whether you have a standard issue plate or a custom plate.

Ant of you got a Tennessee link. I have one picked out for the misses, hers is due at the end of November. We had the old tags transferred.

Are you in PA?

If so, you can check to see if the plate you want is availability here:

https://www.dot33.state.pa.us/vehicle_services/vrvanity.jsp#top?20101026225856187=201010262258561 87

And it looks like you have to mail in the application form with the $20 fee (and says to allow 8 to 10 weeks for delivery).
