Im so in for the LJ top. Geoff when are they out for sale?

Geoff@Bestop 10-26-2010 09:01 PM

I just added those to the site a couple of hours ago.

I believe the Supertop NX will be available this year, and the Trektop NX early 2011.

It's good stuff, especially for TJ owners: all factory, plus a bit more even (the top arch for support, adjustable tension, and quick releases).

BOTH new tops in TJD applications (black only).

DelRocini 10-26-2010 09:10 PM

Perhaps a dumb question? Why doesn't best top design an insulated folding top. There has to be technology available. I would go soft top all year in upstate PA. However, 5 degree mornings are a litttle much for an uninsulated top. I'm sure there would be a market for them.

yjkid95 10-26-2010 09:12 PM

How much are they going to run for? I'm purchasing one as soon as i get my tranny done for the swap. Hardtops to much of a pain in the ass.

I can't imagine an insulated soft top would make enough of a difference when it gets that cold. Any vehicle outside in that weather is freezing inside.

DelRocini 10-26-2010 09:22 PM

I agree. However, it would help to hold the heat in. When it is 95-100 in the summer it would help the keep the AC in and keep my head cool :)

ratuna 10-26-2010 09:27 PM

Thats true once it's warmed up it should help maintain temps. Out here in Chicago my standard soft top works fine just fine tho.

Geoff@Bestop 10-26-2010 10:21 PM

We don't set costs, but I'd guess no more than 50 bucks more than current tops. So close to current Supertop pricing, but with factory door surrounds, factory windshield channel, sailcloth, etc.

Insulated tops: I don't think it's technology, I think it's cost, and maybe some worries about bulk. Some soft tops, like on a Rolls Royce, or upper end BMW, are 7 or so layers, and really do a great job of cutting road noise, and (I assume) keeping heat in or out. They're just really expensive. Our parent company makes some of those too.

Geoff@Bestop 10-26-2010 10:22 PM

I'll add photos to the web site tomorrow. I just ran out of time today (and there was good beer in my fridge).

BUT, the Supertop NX is so close to a factory top that I could just post photos of Wranglers with OE tops, and it would be hard to tell.

yjkid95 10-26-2010 10:27 PM

Sweet now im excited to get one. haha I may just get antsy and heat up the barn to throw one on this winter

Rubi 10-26-2010 11:27 PM

Geoff - any comments on the Trektop NX? What are the big changes compared to current Trektop?

I had a sense from prior threads that "news" would be coming around SEMA - can you confirm that this was it? (I want to start preparing for spring :punk:)

Geoff@Bestop 10-26-2010 11:40 PM

The Trektop NX:
- removable side curtains all the way round
-when removed, top is like a Safari bikini
-sailcloth fabric
-factory style door surrounds
-sunrider sunroof feature
-factory style windshield channel

-----------------
This is the big top news from us for SEMA. But we'll be announcing some other stuff too.

You guys are getting a sneak peek.

Rubi 10-26-2010 11:44 PM

Sweet - I want it .... now!.... for the snow!

(I'm from Denmark - you know.. the place where polar bears walk the streets all year round and everybody's got blue faces ;))

Can I trade my Trektop I bought in May for the new version?! It never fails that an improved version shows up after I purchase something! Sounds like great improvements....everything I wish my current Trektop had going for it!

Adian 10-27-2010 07:41 AM

Does the new Trektop address all of the issues from previous models? I really want one, love the look, but held back based on all the stories floating around. Would be a nice finishing touch to my girl!

what are "all the issues" that need correcting exactly? I am genuinely curious as I am looking at getting either a Trektop or Supertop for my new Jeep. They seem to be better that an OEM top. Seem being the key work there.

From what I have read on this forum and others there are issues with: leaking, fit, pooling, wind noise (doesn't seal well at the window), back velcroing to the tail gate ( had to unvelcro to open), water runoff over the doors.
But, and I say but, I know best top has made a lot of improvements to the design since version 1 came out. They have added a hoop to help prevent pooling on top, connect bar option in back. Also, from what I have read, best top had great customer service and is very good about replacing defective tops and listening to customer feedback.
So in no way bashing them, love the concept of their Trektop, but as with all products it takes a few versions to get it just right and I'm hoping this is that time cause I really want one!!!
Can do a forum search, plenty reviews out there

Adian makes good points all the way round: the launch of the original Trektop was NOT a stellar moment for our company. But that was a bit over two years ago. If you buy a Trektop today, it will be everything you expect. And we've learned from our mistakes. We're not rushing these new tops into the market.

Thanks Geoff. Look forward to the new top and maybe doing a review/writeup once I pick one up.
The hard top versions are nice but the price tag isnt

aenima540 10-27-2010 04:30 PM

Geoff are you guys ever planning on making the Trektop style for YJ's? I'll come up and let you do the measuring and what not on mine ;)

i appreciate your candor Geoff. Looking forward to more details on the new tops.

DelRocini 10-27-2010 05:59 PM

I would be interested in a BMW like soft-top. Heck a 2011 Rubicon can top out at close to $40,000. For that kind of money, there would definitely be interest in a thicker top:)

X... 10-27-2010 09:11 PM

So would the sail top replace a top, offer that extra bit of insulation?

What is the difference between that trektop NX and something like that replaceatop sailcloth one?

They sound pretty similar to me... except for one geared to be quieter. Anyone find it is?

Geoff@Bestop 10-27-2010 10:01 PM

X: Sailcloth is just a heavier fabric. It is quieter, and probably better with heat transfer.

Up until now we've used it on OE factory tops, and Replace-A-Tops only.

With these two new tops, we're offering it in complete top kits.

Most people think it's worth the extra bucks in a Replace-A-Top. They will most likely think that for the Supertop NX as well - it's not going to be a lot more money.
------------

The difference between a Trektop NX and a sailcloth Replace-A-Top? LOTS. The R-A-T uses your factory hardware. So you need that, in good shape. The Trektop NX is a complete top, with all hardware, door surrounds, etc.

The design is different - it uses your rollbar for support. (good looks, simplicity, disadvantage: can't be lowered/folded into the back of your Jeep).

No plans. We do have some competition that make similar style tops for YJs.

The Supertop NX will be available for YJs.

I'm totally getting a Trektop next year so I can take my hard top off for the summer. Was gonna get it this fall but I'm glad I waited. The new version sounds awesome. The only thing I didn't like was that the windows didn't come out. Now with the new version that concern goes away! I'll be patiently waiting...

Supertop NX pictures.
The Supertop NX is very hard to tell from a factory top.

This is a nice shot: shows the quick release knuckles and the adjustable plate for keeping it all tight:

This is the Top Arch: it spans over your head to avoid sags.

The Door surrounds on the Trektop NX and the Supertop NX are factory style. Very close, and interchangeable with your factory surrounds. In fact, you can soon buy these door surrounds directly from us. I think it'll be WAY cheaper than Mopar.

TJ Supertop NX hardware: again, almost identical to factory.
