Project TJ: Revision # ???

So I've had my TJ for 8 years now and wheeled it for a while with an RE 4.5" long arm, 37" MTR's, Tera60 rear, and HP44 front. Recently I stretched the rear back 4.5" and put a fuel cell in, and stretched the front 2" with coilovers and redid the front half of the frame.

Now, I'm on to the next step:

- Replace PSC tube fenders with homemade hi-line tube fenders
- Redo entire cage with frame tie-ins, and bolt front and rear seats to cage
- Replace HP44 with a kingpin HP60
- Retube the rear Tera60 and add chevy 14-bolt outers to match 8 lug front 60
- Replace NP231 4:1 with an Atlas 4.3:1
- Replace AX-15 trans with a AW4 automatic

So far, I've got the first stage checked off the list. Tube fenders fabbed up, on to the cage. Here's pics of the fender work. Ill keep updating as I get things done.

Starting with the drivers side, cut the hood:

Got the basic shape bent and tacked:

Welded up the tube and skinned the outside:

Here is the D60...

Started cleaning it up, got the knuckles, caliper brackets, hubs, etc sitting in my sandblaster just waiting for some time to clean them up. Wire wheeled the housing, need to pick up another wire wheel...

Those fenders look really good man. Nice work!

I wish I had the tools to build my own stuff. Maybe I'll just buy a pipe bender and a welder instead of some bumpers and tube fenders and get a little crafty.

It's definitely more fun to build you own.

Make sure you get a Tube Bender....Pipe and Tube are two different things.

I'd like to make my own also for the reason when someone ask who makes them and how much i get to say I made them and they were a lot cheaper then genrights shittybuilt or any other tube fender as well. Haha. Thanks for the tip though.

The A, B, and C pillars all will tie into the frame. I haven't finished those yet, the floor will be sandwiched between the 1/4" floor plates, and then tied into the frame. I have some Energy Suspension bushings that fit into the 1/75" DOM tube, and Ill use those with some tabs to mount to the frame, so its not hard-mounted. It will still have some body bushing flex.

I'm waiting to finish the back half of my frame before I do the frame tie-ins. I cut the back half of the frame off last night, just behind the body mount in front of the rear tire. :D

kjdavis 12-20-2010 05:54 PM

yjkid95 12-20-2010 06:13 PM

 Youve been busy. Whys the back half of the frame no longer needed?

kjdavis 12-20-2010 06:26 PM

I ordered some FOA coilovers for the rear. With the way the factory frame is, there isn't a lot of clearance between the frame and the tire for coilovers. So, I cut it off and ordered some brackets from ATX customs that angles the frame in, and up....basically narrowing the frame by about 5" or so per side, as well as raising it to parallel the bottom of the tub; more clearance. The brackets I bought angle up and in, and reduce the frame from the stock 2x4, to 2x3". I should have the brackets today or tomorrow, and it will make sense then. Ill post pics.
