Torque

okay, so i know a Jeep is no speed machine and im not planning on taking mine to the drag races.
but i was wondering if there are any small or medium sized modifications or upgrades to increase Torque in my 98 TJ? a buddy or mine who does some work on cars told me i could regear to (i think he said, but dont quote me on it) 4.88, which would increase torque.

u have 31" tires... if u ran 4.88s ur top speed would be 55mph but you would be pulling a wheelie at every green light if you wanted that much torque and your gas mileage would probably be around 7-8 city lol. now we need to know a few things.
1. what gears are you currently running. you can find that out bu looking on your front or rear axle there is a little tag held in between the diff bolts.
2. what kinda trans you have manual or stick?
3. what engine do you have?

if you have e 6cyl with 31s 4.11s will be perfect for on and offroad.
if you have the 4 cyl you already have 4.11s you could just suck it up and enjoy the slow road of owning a jeep or get 4.56s

but just ballpark
