Are You a Member of a Jeep Club? Why or Why Not?

I'm a Jeep Freek:

I enjoy being a member of a club because there are lots of people there to learn from. The members of the Jeep Freeks are a great group to camp and Jeep with.

How about you?

blueJeeps 03-21-2007 06:42 PM

Yes sir, I joined my 1st club years ago so I could learn all those hidden ride spots.

Been club pres. of a few clubs as well. Mostly just enjoy Jeepin with friends.

RedRubiTJ 03-21-2007 07:07 PM

Nope. I off-road with a few friends and occasionaly with people I meet online or elsewhere. The club runs I have encountered have mostly been huge (>10 vehicles sometimes up to 30) and I'm not very fond of spending 3-5 hrs on a trail I can do in 1 by myself. I also have no desire whatsoever to attend meetings or anything similar.

Don't get me wrong, I have met alot of people in many of the clubs and they all seem very nice. On an individual basis I enjoy wheeling with just about everyone in any types of vehicles, the organized club scene is just not my thing.

Joined a Jeep'n club 3 years ago, and haven't regretted a thing. Met great people, who love to wheel, and have learned a lot, just by watching others. Nothing like meeting people, with the same interests. It also pools all the resources, of that many more people. You become familiar with all the local wheeling spots, and meet ones that love to do the occasional wild thing. Joining this club has taught me how to wheel more better, and has led me to places, like Moab, and Katemcy Rocks. My love for wheeling, even brought me here.

I'm a member of wranglerforum.com. Good group of jeepers in that one.

bluvikng 03-21-2007 07:24 PM

Is it safe?

skeeter 03-21-2007 07:38 PM

Wrangler forum. Never been much of a club person, when I was running dune buggies we had a large group that went to the desert together for safety but the politics and rivalries just got ridiculous.

tiny terror 03-21-2007 08:12 PM

I'm disruptive at the meetings and everyone looks at me weird when I interject something off color. So, I avoid large groups of people.

I'm not in a Jeep "club"
but i go out with my buddy who also has a 97 wrangler and we have some fun
we were thinking about joining a club but they look a little hardcore for us, we pretty much have stock Jeeps. I'm not saying stock jeeps cant do hardcore stuff, but i cant break anything on my Jeep since its my everday car (and I'm only 17).
we just ride dirt trails and up hills and stuff
its actually a lot more entertaining than it sounds haha

KA5IVR 03-21-2007 11:37 PM

I'm in the Lone Star Jeep Club.

Like the other car clubs I have been in, Jeep clubs are a great place to Network. See what everyone else has, what they have tried or did before you make the same mistake or investment.

I spend a lot of time in the parking lot at the meetings, just shopping (looking at the jeeps). Some guys give you a look, but most know what you are doing and are more than happy to talk about their Jeeps or show you how they did stuff.

Not in one yet but if anyone knows of a good one in the RI/MA/CT area, let me know. I have no idea where to ride and haven't found much info on the internet yet.

Was a member of Scouts West when I had my Scout. But now that it is gone, not a member of any clubs and I doubt will join any in the future either. Easier to just go wheeling with a few buddies and not put up with the politics that come along with any organization.

Not a member. Someone else said that they don't have their Jeep fixed up enough to join a club, that's what most club's make me feel like.
If I was in a club, it would have to be one that made no demands on me, or requirements of me. I don't have any extra cash to fix up my rig, let alone pay dues to another club. I don't have the extra time to volunteer for some other fund raiser either.
I'm happy with Wrangler Forum. In the California chapter section we have enough of a network to go on rides together, etc. Without any pressure. If one can make it, great. If not, they'll go on without you, great.
Clubs are great for those who have the time to spend on them.
My wife and kids come first, in everything. So I'm really picky where I'm going to spend my "extra" time & money.
That said, my buddy Rawkon says Off Road World is the type of place I fit in to. I'll do what I can, when I can.

No clubs. Next thing you know someone is expecting to to help out. Of course, I don't mind helping anyone out, but I participate on my own terms. No fan of meetings either, I get enough of that at work. I prefer to go wheeling with a few friends for the sames reasons RedRubiTJ said above. WF is my jeep family. :)

Dare2BSquare 03-22-2007 10:51 PM

Who needs a club when we have WF?!!!

There is great info here, good comradery, some looney folks, and lots of fun. I can go to a meeting everyday, or just check in when I feel like it.

amy 03-22-2007 11:07 PM

I'm a member of WF and the hobbs jeep club. Here's a picture of all of the jeeps in our club.

Memeber of any clubs? Will I tend to get invovled so yes I am a member and officer in most clubs.
President AZ RockRats (extreme rock crawl club)
Vice President of Arizona Off Highway Vehicle Coalition. (fight to keep areas open to wheel)
One of the 6 founding members of the AZVJC. Now this type of organization some of you may like. Internet based, no meetings, no dues. Lots of info on building Jeeps and trail runs plan for all levels. I know a few other states have started the same thing.
As far as the RockRats it is a group of close friends we have no real meetings and dues are kept low. We even let Jack (1BLKJP) wheel with us at times. I have heard rumors that he may try to become a member:(

:D

I checked out the website of the local club. The pics worried me a bit but I thought it would be a good place to make a few friends to wheel with. Then I noticed they hadn't updated the site in 2 yrs and didn't have any ride posted. Guess I'll keep looking for people to wheel with.
