Jeep novice: Possible suspension problem

1 Attachment(s)
Hi folks, I definitely have a problem and it may or may not be suspension related. As you all know jeeps can well known for bouncing around and or rocking back and forth when going over bumps/dips, etc. Recently, I've found that every time it bounces from side to side, it makes a horrific clicking noise which felt like it was coming from right under the drivers seat. I got out and had a friend bounce the car a little on each side and the area circled in the picture is where the noise is coming from. Obviously something isn't right, but I just don't know which exact part is the culprit. What I can tell you for sure is that the area circled is definitely where the sound is coming from. Has anyone seen anything like this before? The photo was taken in the front wheel well under the drivers side. Your $.02 is worth dollars to me. Thanks in advance.

Time for a set of JKS Disconects :D

Thats your sway bar link btw. Not that expensive if you want to retain stock, and easy to replace. Sounds like the ball joint at the end has given up the ghost.

Awesome, thanks Ray! I was worried that it was something serious, although when it comes to my jeep, all problems are serious. :) I live in Sunnyvale, is there a particular place you'd personally recommend when it comes to replacing hardware like this? Much obliged!

Too easy to do it yourself. Don't pay anyone.

Hell, if you're local I'll sell ya a used set of JKS Discos for $75, and even help you install em.

It funny, I bet we all knew what the problem was even before we got to his picture...lol

Special thanks to Ray who came through on the clutch- he spent a big part of his day not only helping me throw that puppy on to my jeep, but educating me on every step. He knows so much, it's ridiculous. For anyone out there who has never met him, let me just say, if there are 3 things in life you should trust, it's the Lord Jesus Christ, your doctor, and Ray and not necessarily in that order.

you trust your doctor? A doctor friend of mine once said "general practice is educated guessing." confirmed what i always suspected.

Wow.

I'm humbled by that statement.

Not a bad day of wrenching and talking about Jeeps. The rain saw fit to hold off enough that we were able to get the issues taken care of without getting too wet even. Took care of a couple other minor issues with rb50free's rig as well. Nice guy I might add, even popped for some of the best local burritos in the area for lunch :punk:

Update? Did the recommendations fix the problem?

Ray - San Jose 11-14-2010 12:36 AM

Update would be that lowering the pressure in his tires by about 10 lb, and installing JKS discos cured the problem :punk:

rb50free 11-15-2010 02:16 AM

Sorry for the delinquent reply- I've been out of town.

Just to elaborate, we lowered the air pressure to about 31 psi. And by the way, Ray, it's made a world of difference. It's like a different jeep altogether.
