The YJ Guide

Well, I'm making this post to help some of the newcomers understand what they have, and provide a few great resources. This isn't a guide that has my advice, or my opinions...just straight facts about whats in your Jeep.

Engines:

6 Cylinders
4.2 L AMC 258 was used from 1987 to 1991
4.0 L AMC 242 from 1991-1995

My Car is a jeep wrangler 2,5L from 1995 (4 cylinder) - chassis nr 1J4FYN9PXSP274844
Car is registrered in Denmark - imported from Germany in 2001

The unit that is defekt has the following numbers printed on it:

I have tried to contact several spare part dealers but the response is they dont have that part or they dont know which car it is from the number I have given...

Awesome Post .

I noticed the TJ thread had something similar, so I suppose the YJ thread might need it as well.

yotefever 11-13-2010 10:22 PM

Thanks Mike, I new some of this and really could have used this when I first got my 87.

MikeMTJ 11-14-2010 01:21 PM

I think that we all could have used something like this when we first got our jeeps.

Anyone have any corrections? There was some data that could be wrong.

MikeMTJ 11-28-2010 12:02 AM

reondadomino 11-28-2010 11:19 PM

Help! Got my rear differential drained and a new gasket on, but now I can't get the fill plug out to put new gear oil in it! Any suggestions?

Tried using a 3/8 breaker bar but it's not budging!

88 Wrangler 2.5

MikeMTJ 11-28-2010 11:22 PM

Soak it in PB blaster over night. Try again tomorrow.

Always take the fill plug off first!

Good to hear.

Sweet post.

Ibuildembig 12-08-2010 12:02 PM

List looks good, the only 3.55's I have ever encountered were in pre 91 models...and they are few and far between. In the last 20 6 cylinder jeeps I have had, only 2 of them had the 3.55's

Good to know. Thanks man.

gennybro 12-09-2010 05:54 PM

Ihave a 91 yj with a 2.5 liter engine, I noticed that you stated the frame toweing capacity was 2200 lbs, I was curious If my 4 cyl would have a problem towing that much weight.

jroth92 12-11-2010 01:05 PM

The info really helped out. I have a 95 wrangler also and want to put a shackle lift on it what would you recommend in terms of how big to go with shackles?

rendalneb 12-14-2010 12:29 PM

huh i was under the impression most 4.0 YJs came with 3.73s

Ibuildembig 12-14-2010 12:33 PM

I've yet to see a single YJ with 3.73's factory
