Heads up to anyone coming to the Black Hills

I posted this earlier in Land Use Forum but thought it might warrant more detail and location here in the General.

With all the hunting in and around our area from a lot of folks that come from all over, I wanted to give anyone headed this way a heads up that the offroad rules and regs has really taken an enourmous change... backwards. Starting Dec 1 you won't want to be caught going off road in the Black Hills National Forest without a paid Trail Pass. Of course by "off road", I have to use it loosly as that no longer applies here. Trails are marked on a map (downloadable, look at linky below) or can be picked up at local forest management offices where you can pay $25 for a year pass or $20 for a 7 day pass.

Like I said, just a heads up if you are headed this direction!! I heard enforcement of this is going to be quite heavy as this is a great way to earn money!!!

Highway legal being: plates, mirrors, drivers licence and insurance presented if stopped. And thats on a road that doesn't need the new trails pass.

and this is the road its on

Sadly, the USFS and BLM are not only out of touch with those of us that enjoy riding and wheeling public land but are so out of control, it will take a major out cry from the citizenry to bring them to reality.

Those that abuse our lands with irresponsible wheeling and riding are the reason so many areas are being shut down.

I totally agree, abuse is the biggest threat. I recently posted a picture (pretty scenic, I like it) in my photo gallery but what that picture doesn't show is what was just to the left of my jeep about 300 feet. Tons of trash and reckless abuse of firearms (shotgun to trees and such) and this is on a trail that will no longer be accessible. I wonder why? I wish my battery wasn't dying, I planned on taking more pictures... this one just doesn't do it justice.

Regardless, this is what it is all coming to. The rest of us pay for the poor judgement of others.
