clanking noise when driving over bumps?

I have a 2008 JK with a 6" lift (suspension). Whenever I drive over any bumps in the road i.e. Speed bumps I hear this loud clanking noise coming from under the jeep. It sounds as if the jeep was dropped from a few feet in the air. I'm tightening all the suspension bolts today hoping this will fix the problem. Anybody have another sugestion? Thank you!

This probably won't be helpful... But I had the same thing after my 3" lift on a 2010. Turned out to be a missing bolt!! My front driver side shock was seated at the bottom... But a closer look revealed it didn't even have a bolt in it. Sounds stupid... But... I was looking for bolts to tighten... Not bolts that weren't there!!! LOL Make sure you're not missing anything while you tighten!!!! LOL

On a more useful note: Can you replicate the noise by manipulating truck while parked? I was able to get some of the sound while jumping on the bumper... Then a buddy located the origin of the sound. With suspension... That's the easiest way... Have a fat guy jump on it... Then find the noise! Good luck.

Thanx buddy. I'm gonna go get me a fat guy right now. That was funny! I'll get back to you on the result. Your right I could be missing a bolt all together so thank you for your insight.

LOL... Two skinny guys will work too. Or better yet two ladies to jump up and down on the jeep!!! Now THAT's a good repair day!

Hitch

I had a loud rattle from the rear of mine and I traced it to the drop hitch/ball fitting loose in the receiver hitch.

I've just developed a new noise... What did find to be your source on this?

This probably doesn't help, but my bump sond was the oversized spare tire mounted on my Garin bumper bumping against te bump-stop on the rear gate. I move the bump-stop end out, and it went away.

I had a small rattle on mine that took me a few days to find. I never noticed it until the last week or so when the weather warmed enough to drive around with the windows down.

It turned out to be the "D" rings on my front bumper. I took some 1" heater hose and cut four pieces 1/4" long each. I then removed the 7/8" pin and installed a piece of heater hose on each side of the mount. It was a snug fit but no more rattles and is quite as can be.

Mike.
