Neoprene Seat Covers

I was all set to purchase Smittybilt Neoprene seat covers for my Jeep when a friend told me that if the seat covers get wet they will have a bad odor. My friend does alot of surfing and he says the material is made out of the same as a wet suit. Has anybody had this problem with the neoprene seat covers?

I thought that was the whole idea behind those covers. So that you could sit on them, being totally wet. Also to protect your seats from not having a top on them.

Thats what I thought, but my friend tells me that his wet suit gets a bad odor. Maybe from the salt water

Well that, and you sweat in a wet suit. But as a cover for your seat, and sitting on them, not wearing them, I would think it wouldn't be as bad. You should wash a wet suit after using it, with soap and water, and purhaps, that is all you need to do with the covers, after removing them, and letting them air dry. Just a hunch.

I have the Wet Okole seat covers and there is no problem of odor when they get wet, other than the odor of neoprene that they always have. One thing to remember, though, the seat cover is there to protect your SEAT from getting wet, not you. If the covers get wet they will soak it up and when you sit in them you will get a wet ass (okole is hawaiian for ass), but your actual seat's frame won't and therefore won't rust even after repeated exposure to water. As for cleaning them you can wash them right on the seat. Frankly, if you are looking for a seat that can get wet and then be wiped off immediately so you can sit on it without getting wet then I would suggest you get vinyl or leather, neoprene is more for when YOU are already wet, like after a day at the beach or running.

Wet suits stink because of prolonged exposure to the salt water and because surfers/divers will relieve ourselves in the suit. This is the reason they need to be washed and sanitized after every use. Wear a wet suit in a pool and it doesn't smell at all. You shouldn't have any problems with odor on your seat covers.
