Dana 30 Axle CAD removal
The guy who owned my jeep before me removed the CAD from my Dana 30 in the front end and I'm assuming he put the one piece axle in. I'm removing the aftermarket cover tonight and checking that out for sure. My understanding is that when you put the one piece in you should also convert to manual locking hubs... What are the side effects of not doing that? I have 4.56 gears and a Detroit locker in the front diff. Should I pick up locking hubs for it? Most of the kits I see are pushing 1g for the whole assembly. I think I'm currently having an issue with my auto hubs locking when they shouldn't... What do you guys think?
Is your Detroit a automatic or selectable locker? Actually it shouldn't matter either way. If it is a selectable it should act like an "open" carrier when dis-engaged. If it is an automatic locker; it should still allow the front to unlock. You shouldn't be having trouble with the auto hubs because D30's in YJs don't have hubs. All there is at the end is a unit bearing and an outer shaft. I replaced mine with a TJ shaft & don't have any problems. I wouldn't waste any money on putting manual hubs on a D30. For that price you could buy better axles & swap them in both front & rear.
