Intentionally bash someone else's car door?

Last night I rode with a friend to school, parked and went in. After class when we got out to the truck a person had parked extremely close in a Chrysler 300 to the drivers side where he could barely get in (Dudes big like 6'2 350lb). I asked if he could get in without hitting the car next to him and he said nope, grabbed the door handle and bashed it into the car, then proceeded to get into the truck while the door was rubbing against the other vehicle. He said "That's what they get for parking so close". And they were parked all stupid and cockeyed and there was plenty of room on the other side... What do you guys think? Was he justified in his actions? There was no way he would have been able to crawl from the passenger side and I didn't think to take a pic due to I didn't want evidence against him lol ...

Hammerwalk 12-03-2010 02:32 PM

Sounds justified... youparklikeanasshole.com a new found favorite site of mine. Printed me out some citations to keep in the glove box.

I cant stand people who cant park worth a damn, i mean, really? Is it that hard to go in straight?

bobjenkins 12-03-2010 02:37 PM

If you're tires are in between the lines you're parked fine. Sounds like the douche who knowingly parked there with out enough room needs too park somewhere else

If you're tires are in two lanes you park like a douche but no one deserves to get their car scratched for something so trivial

nick50471 12-03-2010 02:44 PM

x2 not to mention the damage to your vehicle.

JDsDream 12-03-2010 02:44 PM

Leave a nasty note, wait for the guy to come out or anything else, but don't intentionally destroy property. Maybe the person on the other side of him was a little too close to the line, you never know. "Do unto others"!!!

FlyinJeeps 12-03-2010 02:55 PM

If he was over the line, it was semi-justified. I would have opened the door but gently rest against the offending vehicle and try and get in without actually making a scratch.. If he has a big truck and the guy was in the lines, it's really his fault for parking in a space too small for his truck..

CMEvans79 12-03-2010 02:55 PM

Yeah, I was kinda in shock myself and we didn't talk about it on the ride home... I thought it was a bit much, but couldn't do anything about it. Just asking because I have mixed feelings ... yeah, the other guy parked like an ahole, but was it necessary to do what was done ... no ... just looking for some thoughts to see if my feelings of shock were right or not.

Jeepchic70 12-03-2010 02:58 PM

I wouldn't intentionally hurt my vehicle for something so trivial but I do have something I leave on their windshield that says "If you f^ck like you park then you'll never get it in".

He's got an full size chevy, but all the spots are the same size and he was right in the middle of his spot, the 300's back tire was actually closer to the truck than the door area... I wish I would have taken some pic's but he had a hard time getting between his truck and the 300 and I think with class and work then coming out to that he was just pissed ... I felt like an accessory to battery or something

s3nt3nc3d 12-03-2010 03:01 PM

My friend would have been walking home after that one...and yes, I have kicked people out and made them walk for stupid things like that. Not because it was uncalled for...you can do what you want...WHEN IT'S YOUR OWN VEHICLE!

If someone used the door of MY vehicle to ding up someone's door, not only are they damaging the person who may or may not have deserved it's door...but they're dinging up YOUR door as well and you don't deserve it for being nice enough to drive instead of your friend.

When I was younger, some friends were going to go egg some classmate's house...I didn't want to participate but I was curious to see how it looked afterward so I drove along. A friend also rode with me and I told him he was welcome to ride if he didn't participate. He agreed...and when we got there, he attempted to throw an egg that he'd hidden in his jacket out the window at their car. Instead it busted inside my door leaving me with a nice mess to clean up. I kicked his ass out right there on the spot and told him he better hope one of the others is willing to come back for him and I left.

It really bothers me when people violate my trust or they mess with my vehicle. Heck, I get annoyed when my friend constantly feels the need to mess with my radio and turns on his music...which 9 times out of 10 is something I can't stand to listen to.

I dunno...sorry for ranting...but IMO, I think your friend really abused your friendship.

Edit: After typing that I realized you rode with your friend and he didn't ride with you... I think he went a little overboard, but eh...his vehicle. Carry on. lol

Not sure if there is a law that says a car has be to parked in the lines. However I can tell you there is a law for property damage, which your buddy did, and you where part of it would seem.

Meh, some people are just a little hot headed.. I wouldn't let it bother you, let karma sort that stuff out.. The 300 owner probably pissed off a lot of other people too in his/her driving career. Next time offer to jump in his truck and back it out for him so he can get in easily, it'll rub him in just the right way to let him know you were uncomfortable last time.

Have to agree with this. If the owner of the 300 had seen this, charges could have been filed and somebody(s) could have been arrested.

I know, but there was really nothing I could have done except pull the truck out for him but I was standing by the passenger side door waiting to get in and I walked around to see what he was "Going Cartman" about and it was over. I was standing there as he got in but damage was done.

Man,, thanks for the link. That is freakin funny. I'm printing these and keeping them in both vehicles.

And No, I wouldnt condone that sort of retaliation to someone's vehicle. At the very most, I have folding "in" someone's side mirrors when they parked too close to me. And that is just to allow myself room to get in my vehicle. But damaging someone's vehicle is a misdeamenor offense.

RatherBNarizona 12-03-2010 03:27 PM

I would have never done anything to their vehicle. The worst thing I would do is put a note on their car with a smarta** remark. But that would only be if they were over the line and I had no possible way of getting in.
If I saw someone ding my door, things would go south real quick.

daggo66 12-03-2010 03:38 PM

I know it's upsetting when you see people park like that, but you have to learn to walk away. Property damage makes you worse than them and leaving a note is nothing more than a hollow victory. The stress isn't worth it.

Ibuildembig 12-03-2010 03:42 PM

That's why I park out in east egypt if I am driving something I care about.

aelwero 12-03-2010 03:45 PM

when someone's a jackhole, and you respond by being a jackhole, it doubles the amount of jackholes in the world and doesn't make the first guy any less a jackhole, and there's only one thing any of us can do about it without adding to the problem... don't be a jackhole...

Despite having done nothing, you feel bad, because you've implied through your silence that you think it's OK. Stop kicking yourself over it and tell your friend something.

tell him you think it was wrong and he should trade insurance info with the kid and sort it out...

or, if you don't want to go the "nerdy" route, then just tell him straight up that he's a jackhole. He'll know what you mean.

or, you can skip saying something and keep feeling bad about something you had nothing to do with...

all the "that guy parked like a jackhole" comments in the world ain't gonna fix you feeling bad about it...

Ibuildembig 12-03-2010 03:47 PM

lol jackhole.....if you called me that I'd give you the dog who just heard a new sound look...hehehehe jackhole, that's funny

530ktm 12-03-2010 03:53 PM

What if there was a car parked like a real pecker head on the other side of the 300 so this person had no choice but to park the way they did. And then, what if the original pecker head left the parking spot first which left the 300 parked right up against your friends truck. Now your friend comes along and completely messes up this 300's paint job because he thinks they deserve it. I can understand getting angry but to mess up someone's car because of this situation is uncalled for. I think your big friend has no class and it appears he does not even care about his own car since he was content on having the door rub the other car while he was getting in.

I've been walking around calling everyone a jackwagon for years after having heard it on Mail Call... and my last LT was overly fond of using "***hole". I spent weeks dragging him off to the side every time he used it and trying to get him to use jackwagon instead, and eventually he met me halfway with "jackhole", and it sorta grew on me :)

I tend to flop back and forth between the two now...

Ibuildembig 12-03-2010 04:08 PM

:) I like it, I really do.

Hammerwalk 12-03-2010 04:12 PM

just to clear my name, in case there was some confusion, i wouldn't do that, i instead place the "citation" notes that I downloaded from youparklikeanasshole.com , but i can see how, if someone was hot head, how it would be justified. Personally, no i wouldn't go that low, but i could see how it would seem justified. Either way, i still cant stand people who dont know how to park.

i don't ever try to harm anothers property. but I did put the fear of God (or me by default) into a guy once for denting up my old car. He was twice my size, but I was angry...so it made him very nervous. (I was parked appropriately, as I always do)

I have noticed that when I drive the Lotus, it doesn't matter how far out I park, some asshat has to park next to me.

Mr. Sinister 12-03-2010 04:55 PM

back out of the spot first, then let him in the vehicle.

KeeblerKO 12-03-2010 04:59 PM

What I do in such a situation is swing my door open as I normally would. Not any extra force behind it, but however it hits their car is how it hits their car.

People that take pride in their vehicle's being immaculate don't park crooked in parking spaces, take up two spaces, nor park right up on top of someone else. They park way out in the parking lot away from everyone else and stay in their lines. No matter the weather conditions or what type of hurry they are in. Parking like a retard is also acceptable only if they are way out in the parking lot where spaces will not fill up to during the time they are inside somewhere.

If you park amongst the masses, you accept that minor damage occurring is bound to happen sooner or later. If you park stupidly you are increasing those chances.

Someone who cares about the condition of their vehicle will seek out a different spot if the one they want forces them to park moronically due to how another car is parked next to that spot.
