Parts help for a newb?
 
I'm prepping to lift my 2010 wrangler sport (2dr). Over the past couple weeks I've been doing my homework and deciding what I want to use. This is what I have so far:

Lift- Rock Krawler JK 3.5" Mid Arm Flex System
Shocks- Bilstein 5100 shocks (4)
Steering Stabilizer- TeraFlex heavy-duty Jeep JK
Wheels- 17x9" V-Tec Raptor (5)
Tires- BF Goodrich Mud Terrain T/A KM2 (285/70/17) (5)
Driveshafts-???

This list is completely open to suggestions and advice. I really need advice and some more knowledgeable people to chime in and help me out with the driveshaft selection. Also, would there be anything else you recommend go on this list? Another question I had was will I need a new mounting setup to put the spare on the rear? Thanks for the help and patience guys.

Just wondering why so much lift with a tire you could fit on a stock JK. Might look foolish but I'm not sure, I'd go with bigger tires or a smaller lift.

so you'd recommend something like a 305/60/17? I Just didn't want any worries about rub at full flex or sharp turns.

With 3.5" of lift a 35 will match up good which would be 35x12.50R17 or 315/70R17. The size you said earlier is a little under 33" and you wouldn't need a lift at all to use them. You could always compromise in the middle with a 305/70R17 if you can find one which is 34" or just move down to probably a 2.5" lift. What do you plan on doing with your jeep to need 3.5" of lift? How much wheeling will you be doing compared to normal usage and on how hard of trails? You could save a lot of money on a smaller lift by not needing control arms or driveshafts and maybe spend the money on something like armor or re-gearing or bumpers etc etc. Make sure you know what you want the jeep for before you lift it and you shall find the answer to what size tires and lift to be buying.

Have you wheeled it much stock? Do you need the clearance for rocks, etc? What do you use the Jeep for mostly?

I Live in the Texas hill country on a ranch. My ranch truck is an old jacked up 87 GMC. For the most part its not too rough out there, But there's a good portion of the land cut off by some rough terrain I cant reach unless I'm on an atv. I want the jeep to be a functional go anywhere vehicle that will allow me to get back in there. Not just simply cosmetic. I think a 2.5 would let me do it, but id need to armor the hell out of the underside, especially when i get to the limestone where the creek has cut out some rather nasty little trenches. Like I said, Im fully open to recommendations, but to sum things up, I need a very off road capable vehicle that still maintains some comfort on the road. And yes I've done a good bit stock. My profile picture shows the waterline from one of my adventures near the creek after a good rain.

The lift doesn't give you ground clearance, the tires do. The lift allows for larger tires.

I know that. I just wanted to make sure there was plenty of room for flex with the tires, because that limestone is pretty uneven

If you want flex then you need to disconnect your sway bar links.

I second the "give it a whirl stock" crowd.

These JKs--even stock--are not easy to get stuck. If you think you need armor, then you probably do (you should be able to get some good recommendations on here), but you can add that without the other major mods. I think the standard recommendation is the evap canister, oil pan, and rock rails. Others know better than I.

Once you armor up, try it out. I bet you will be surprised. Just watch out for water under your hood--no CAIs if you're going anywhere near water, unless it's a snorkel.

If you still choose to go with your 3.5" lift and have the correct wheels or spacers then you don't have to worry about being able to flex with 35's on. There will be plenty of room, also you could always get flat fender flares and run a 2.5" with 35's and not rub. I'm not sure how the terrain is where you are but "full flex" like you seem worried about is actually pretty intense on these JK's with the sway bar disconnected. It isn't something your going to get yourself in to on everyday trails.
