Preowned 2010 JK Unlimited - Not Certified but...
So I've made the decision that the new(ish) Wrangler will be a 2010 JK at a very nice price. The dealer seems to be alright (came in with the best new car price, and didn't bellyache when we told him we were opting for a preowned). The JK has fair mileage (15,000) and the carfax looks clean EXCEPT it was a rental/fleet vehicle.
Pato suggested that I talk with the dealer about seeing if it could be Certified Preowned... for whatever reason they don't do the Chrysler Certified route - and I know that there are warranty extensions that can be purchased for similar prices. So we reached a stand off - then I mentioned that "not to be rude, but I'd want a third party to inspect the JK." A prepurchase inspection or PPI.
The dealer responded well to that, I have a mechanic near me (probably a 40 minute drive each way from the dealer) who I trust. The dealer said if I can give him the info, he'd be willing to bring the JK to the shop I chose for the PPI. The shop charges about $190 for a two hour inspection (seems fair, they even said are you sure you want a 2010 inspected?). I figure peace of mind is worth $200.
So here are some questions:
What sort of warranty (if any) would still be covering a preowned 2010 JK?
Any reasons why the dealer wouldn't want the Certified Preowned? Pato says it's only around $400 for the dealer to do (the dealer implied that the dealership's owners rarely do it for any car they sell - but it also sounded like they might do it if purchase was guaranteed afterward - I don't want to be putting any deposits down until I'm sure).
What sort of aftermarket warranties are out there - what should I look for and how much are they? The dealer sounded like he had a few that he could suggest...
Any other feed back would be appreciated as well.

If you decide to buy an aftermarket warranty, DON'T buy it from the dealer! Talk to your lender and see what they have to offer. We bought our third Mercury Insurance co. warranty when we bought our '07 in Sept, had $2800.00 in differential repairs done to it for no charge, so that right there paid for the warranty. They are a very good warranty company to use in my opinion. Most here will advise against an aftermarket warranty, and in some circumstances I'd agree.... I don't know if the warranty is transferrable on the '10's or not, it wasn't on the '07. Read the paperwork in the glove box for yourself, don't take anyone's word for it....
