My dealer drilled holes in my new bumper

Picked up my new 2011 JK Rubicon and when I got home, I notice there was a dealer advertisement tag on the front bumper. The plastic Jeep bumper comes with four small dimples in the front bumper, I guess to show you where to drill, if you want to add a front plate.

My state does not require a front plate and I don't normally put any kind of plate on the front of my vehicles. After removing the plate the dealer installed, there are two holes in my bumper. Maybe it's not a big deal, but I don't appreciate them drilling permanent holes in my bumper without my permission.

Did this happen to anyone else and is there anything I can do to cover up the holes?

Dogzilla 12-19-2010 11:35 AM

That would piss me off too. I'm thinkin I'd tell em to replace the bumper with an undamaged one!

MR.CLIFFORD 12-19-2010 11:42 AM

I'm gonna guess they drilled the holes before you bought it.

Once you have the jeep for awhile you will ditch the front bumper and install something that doesn't crumple.

smaxberry 12-19-2010 11:43 AM

Yea mine came that way too. They laughed when I told them I charge for advertising so I had them remove it before I left. On the plus side I got a place to put my dive flag.

Dogzilla 12-19-2010 11:44 AM

The vast majority of Jeep owners do NOT "ditch" the bumpers. Just sayin.

Schwheelz 12-19-2010 11:45 AM

Im pretty sure they do that to all of them? I know in tulsa most of the new ones i see have holes in the bumper

tella 12-19-2010 11:45 AM

You're absolutely right. Most new jeep owners don't ever get their jeep off the road either.

Dogzilla 12-19-2010 11:55 AM

You are correct there, too.

The dealer did this to my '11 as well. I just stuck a plate for the volunteer group I am a part of. If you dont have or want to put a plate on there maybe you could put some silicon in the holes?

jp2611 12-19-2010 12:01 PM

That really sucks IMO!

Pony Hauler 12-19-2010 12:02 PM

If the plate wasn't on there before signing paperwork, they should have to replace the bumper cover, otherwise you might be SOL.

slimegoat 12-19-2010 12:04 PM

I'll be standing there when they drill the holes for my front plate this time. My '11 Rubicon came in yesterday, and front plates are mandatory in NY.

The same dealership drilled my front plate on my '08 Sahara, and it was crooked. It has bothered me ever since.

dgherm 12-19-2010 12:11 PM

My 2011 was spared in the front. They did put a dealer plate frame on the rear though. No dealer stickers anywhere either.

Mr. Sinister 12-19-2010 12:32 PM

my dealer didn't do his. i bought in delaware, who doesn't require a front plate, but live in maryland, who does. so i ended up having to do this anyway.
i say the same thing, i don't advertise for free.

Vaultzz 12-19-2010 12:32 PM

I have the same two holes on my XJ's bumper, it really made me mad when I saw them but I realized that they'll make a good aux light mount :D

chucky cheese 12-19-2010 12:45 PM

My 2011 doesn't have dimples but has 2 small pimples or tits for the two lower plate holes. stuck my old plate on there w/ sheetmetal screws. didn't like the looks so took it off and the tits closed up. No drilling required. Use small stainless screws with stainless washers and they work fine w/ no drilling. By the way a plate will not fit between the bumper lights w/ a frame on it. Need about 1/8 more space.

Avalon786 12-19-2010 12:57 PM

My jeep came with the front dealer advertising plates drilled in it (they have all their Jeeps set up that way since you need front plates here)

RB-10rubicon 12-19-2010 01:47 PM

I agree i dont advetise for no one i peeled the dealear sticker off crumbled it up and handed to the salesman .for your bumper holes you could always put a little black silicone in there so it is not that noticable

Dogzilla 12-19-2010 02:13 PM

The hardware store should have some small black plastic plugs that will blend in and just look like part of the bumper.

Haha. Do you get a special parking place with that pass? You know, one without any speed bumps to get hung up on.

JIMBOX 12-19-2010 03:12 PM

I'd beat the dealer. :flipoff:

adrenaline 12-19-2010 03:47 PM

That would have pissed me off too.

GoldenSahara00 12-19-2010 03:51 PM

Find someone who put an aftermarket on and buy there stock one for like 20 bucks. Id sell you mine but its TJ ;) haha. I understand your frustration, but just be like, I was doing some hardcore offroading and ran into a pitch fork...and a farmer. Battle scars make your jeep unique, :)

Thanks for all the great responses.

I talked with the dealer today. They were very apologetic and happily agreed to exchange the bumper with another new Wrangler on their lot.

Seems like there some dealers that are serious about customer service!

roxbury29 12-20-2010 07:14 PM

I would not have been happy either.. The day I purchased mine, the dealer sticker on the back came right off!!

jeepr 12-20-2010 09:36 PM

Just put on a stinger ;) (or an aftermarket bumper) plastic bumper wont last long if you take it offroad.

Nice. I wouldn't have expected it to be quite that easy! :)

That would have annoyed me as well, luckily my dealer just had a plastic logo with automotive double-sided adhesive. They put it on the day I picked it up, so it was still easy to just pop off without any residue.
