painting headlight rings black

Im outside painting my headlight rings black. I'm using a primer, I already sanded them with 220 grit sand paper. Which paint should I use for the black? Krylon fusion satin black, rust control satin black or rust control flat black?

You shouldn't need primer with the Krylon. It's designed to bond to plastic. I painted mine a few weeks ago and have had a high pressure washer within 4" of it with no peeling.

Done painting them. I think it looks great. My brother parked in front of me so this is a close pic. I will put a better one up later

Mike_3303 12-19-2010 05:45 PM

BLK00TJ 12-19-2010 05:53 PM

Lookin' good! Doesn't it make you smile a little wider when you see it now?:D

Kevinm2467 12-19-2010 06:00 PM

Yeah I'm lovin it now.... Everyone was right about painting them... Took about 3 hrs to do and a six pack of beer. My garGe was 72 degrees also...

Bigstonz 12-19-2010 06:39 PM

You should buy the black grill inserts they make the car look mean looking! I brought the inserts and black headlights for my yellow wrangler and makes it look 100% better!

Yeah... You can see that my thread started about 2pm. Then I posted a pic of them finished about 6:30. I waited for a little bit too get some opinions on the paint I should use. Then I said hell with it and went at it. Maybe 3 1/2 hrs. They were dry to the touch so I threw them on.... They didn't chip or nothing when I installed them. I think since it's thin plastic stuff it dried quick. Now when I painted my thick metal mirror bracketts, they took forever to dry.....

Bigstonz 12-19-2010 07:04 PM

Well, if you include drying time I guess it took me a couple of days. 5 minutes to take them off. 5-10 minutes to scuff. I almost just put them back on "non chrome polished" - looked pretty good. I put a coat of paint (Semi gloss Rustoleum)on whenever I happened to be in the garage over the next couple of days. Then 5 minutes to put back on.
Now the only things chrome are lugnuts and the damn Jeep logo on the steering wheel..can you just scrape chrome off that logo?

When painting something small like that, you can set it up on a piece of cardboard. Take it outside, spray it, bring it back in to dry between coats. Be sure to bring the paint in also.

^^^^That's what I did. It made my wife mad because she's sensitive to paint smells and it stunk up the house a bit. It was worth it anyway though:cool:

OME is sexy, and often times the 4 might even give you like 4.5, they tend to under estimate themselves ;) now that was an investment :P

Yeah I was outside the other day measuring my springs and they came out to me as being almost a 6 inch lift. Infernogirl sent me a chart awhile back on spring height. I'm assuming that's a installed spring height? Do you know what my spring lengths should be for a installed spring 4 inch ome susp.lift?

BLK00TJ 12-21-2010 06:00 PM

Where did you get the OME 4" lift from? I've only seen the 2-2.5" lifts from them.

Neil F. 12-21-2010 07:38 PM

OME does not make a 4"

TerrorJ2001 12-23-2010 07:48 AM

I didn't even bother sanding mine. I just washed them in my kitchen sink and painted with whatever black paint I had in my garage. It's been holding since the summer. It took maybe 5mins (dried in 15). My beer lasted longer.

I bought it with the lift on it already. I know the shocks are OME. I just assume the susp.lift is OME....

Neil F. 12-23-2010 11:51 AM

I may be wrong. I did search before and I did not find an OME 4" "kit" but OME does sell 4" springs and shocks for 3.5 - 5". You may indeed have an OME setup.
