cracked frame :(
when i bought my yj back in september i made sure i did a nice look around the truck before coming to a purchasing decision. I checked all the fluids undercarriage brakes signals even stupid things such as do the horn and wipers work etc. well one thing that went unnoticed- a nice crack in the frame.

well fail how did i not notice this..i discovered it about a week or two after i had the truck registered. the crack is right on the drivers frame rail, right where the steering box mounts..

it didnt look TOO bad but i did know i had to do something about it before it escalated to something worse.

being that the jeep is my second vehicle just used for wheelin and such it isnt that crucial that i fix it asap. fast foward a few weeks later after wheeling a few times the crack got really bad. now before the crack snaps in half and i die in a tragic highway crash i decided to have it welded...

brought it to a friends house and had him use his 220 mig welder and hopefully get a nice bead on it and maybe use two plates to strenghthen it up. well that didnt work lol

so fail all over the place. long story short i ordered the autorust frame replacement section from quadratec- $165 plus shipping.

overall, kind of disapointed in the peice. i expected a little more...i feel as though they could have used better material, the welds looked kind of cheesy in some spots and there were burs all over.
Now i have a professional welding it in he used two plates to reinforce the frame and he is going to make a brace to attach to the other frame rail

ill get some pics of the old frame peice and of the new stuff when i can

sorry for the long thread lol just felt like sharing this.

Thats unfortunate to hear about the AutoRust product. I have two matching cracks on both sides of my frame up front above the shackles that I was hoping to repair/replace with a couple AutoRust pieces. (ART-102)

I just finished some repair on the rear frame in mine. I made my own plates out of 3/16" steel, They go from the rear most point up about 14". It was overkill for mine but I did not want to do it again. I'll get some pics soon.

I trashed my auto rust piece when I went to fix my frame 2 weeks ago. their lower bolt holes didn't line up with my steering box mount. a chunk of 1/4 plate 2 nuts and a few stick of 7018 rod later my frame is nice and solid.

I had the same problem with mine. I did it getto and took the old part of my front bumper and boxed in the front section with alittle cutting it has held up pretty well. I also just did the drivers rear leaf spring section of my frame. Ordered the peace from autorust i was not disapointed as u were with ur purchase the welds on mine looked beautiful they did send me the wrong side so i had to cut it to fit the side i needed to fix but all in all i was pleased with what i bought sorry it didnt work out as well for u

Just got my autorust piece a few days ago and the jeep is going into the shop to have the left front corner of the frame replaced. Patching the right front corner too. Pics to come in a few days.
