Will an 04 soft top and hardware fit an 02

I did some Googling but couldn't find a solid answer. Confused between 97-02 working together and 97-06 which I see here and there. Will 04 hardware fit an 02? If not will the top fit onto the older hardware? What about 04 door sills?

I can confirm 97 fts an 03. I believe 97-06 all works of course unless its an lj

Sweet, I figure as long as the new top fits my old hardware I'm golden

There may be an issue with the electrical plug. Connector is different from 03+. (I think ) someone else should be able to confirm.

Edit I read hard top. Disregard my comment

A top for '03-'06 will fit on older models if using '03-'06 hardware. Newer top will not work with older hardware.

I put a 2006 sailcloth top with hardware (factory Sunrider) on my daughter's 2000 TJ with no problems... read later that the bracket that mounts the bars to the roll bar (B-pillar) should be changed as well. Ordered some newer brackets which are in fact a little longer and it did make the top quite a bit tighter.

Hope this helps

Do you have any literature or pictures of the bracket?

Roll bar brackets...

The factory part numbers for the '03-'06 brackets are...

55395006AC (right)
55395007AC (left)

The frames are the same dimensions. The only reason those brackes changed was due to the thickness of the roll bar padding. The 03+ bars need stick out further to clear the padding. If you have the brackets already on your 02, you are fine.

Door sills? You mean door surounds? (a sill is at the bottom) The surounds fit all 97-06

Thanks for the info guys, really helps a lot. Ya I meant door surrounds too hehe, anyone need an extra pair?

Just picked up an OEM sail cloth top with tinted windows and all factory hardware basically brand new for 400 :-)

400 is a decent price for what you got. If you have an extra set of surounds, put them on ebay or the for sale section. The go for around 100.00.

This is all exactly correct, as usual for Neil. I'd just add that the zippers also changed at some point, so while an entire top will fit any TJ, the side panels and rear windows are not all interchangeable. Not an issue, if you're getting a full top, but make sure you know the year of any tops you get, in case you need replacement windows down the road.

In 2003 (I think) the zippers changed from back to front to front to back. Or versa vice. Or possibly the other way round. I can never keep it straight.

Very good to know Geoff, glad I didn't try to fit the new rear window on my current top haha. I'll be installing this in a week or two, need to find a warm garage elsewise it'll be impossible in the winter cold. Hopefully it'll go smooth!
