My Free Jeep !

Hey guys , been lurking here a couple of weeks since I found out I was getting this YJ. I had a CJ5 in the 80's and have been missing jeep'n every since . A relative gave me this high mileage (220K)94 Sahara with a 4.0 5 speed. I just drove it home friday , hour drive and it ran great! I can't believe how a 200,000 mile 4.0 can run that smooth. I went over the whole frame and its rock solid , I know I'm lucky there. The Jeep is very solid with a few rust spots , the front fenders will need to be replaced, rear tailgate has rust, floors are solid. I plan to Rhino line the the inside. I needs leaf springs badly , I just want stock height now lift , any suggestions on stock replacement springs ? Great web site with great info ... Thanks !

Looks like a great deal! I used hurculiner on my tj.

nice YJ! For stock springs check our vendors on here. Though the cost is going to run very close to the price of a small lift kit.

uncleb 12-27-2010 03:12 PM

nice yj.

JeepAddOns-Chris 12-27-2010 03:15 PM

Great pick up! There's lots of people that just trash or give away their stock springs when putting a lift on. You can very likely find a good set for next to nothing.

200K on this engine is nothing. I do a lot of highway miles on mine in addition to wheeling. I have close to 250K on the clock and outside changing the oil and replacing the water pump I haven't had to do much of anything at all to it.

That's AWESOME, Congrats, Welcome to the forum.

Thats really cool, so welcome & tell me what those little straps are on the seats?

Dr. Venture 12-27-2010 03:28 PM

Wow, not bad! Reminds me of the trade i made with a customers car for my Jeep!!! 196K running strong!

YJjeep 12-27-2010 03:28 PM

Welcome! Nice rig

NYYJ 12-27-2010 03:35 PM

Thanks for the comments , even my wife is getting into the jeep thing , she wants me to sell our expedition and get a Grand Cherokee , I will be looking for one with a 4.0 for sure. I don't know what the straps are for they look stock. Once I do the brakes and tune up it will be ready for the road , can't wait. I will check with the vendors here for springs... Thanks!

Dr. Venture 12-27-2010 03:39 PM

4.0 inline....to me were, and are the BEST engines!

Congrats!! I'd also get a 2 inch lift since you need all new springs. Even with stock tires it will look great & you'll be set for larger ones when you decide to get them. (for we all know you will eventualy get larger tires, lol).

When you get it all dolled up, take it back to your sweet relatives that gave it to you, show it off & throw them a nice bone.

Good for you, you lucky son of a b!tch!!!

NYYJ 12-27-2010 06:11 PM

lol 07XMan,, you know your right , gotta get the lift right? the 2 to 2.5 sounds good , does that require the pan drop ? , Man between this project and my 65 stang which is in the paint shop now... I'm gonna be broke! but hey got it for nothing , So I don't mind dropping a few bills on it

Wiegand 12-27-2010 06:30 PM

I dont think anything needs to be added before a 4" lift.

I know a 2" for sure needs nothing dropped.

JeepAddOns-Chris 12-27-2010 06:32 PM

The answer to that is not usually, but sometimes. Most people can get away with not running one on that small of a lift. I'd rather run with a SYE than do a drop anyway, but that's a few more bills in addition to the few more bills in addition to the few more bills in addition to... well, you get the picture. :)

Boosta 12-27-2010 06:33 PM

Outstanding!!

puffisaurus 12-27-2010 07:28 PM

looks dead on my 93... but a lil nicer :(

Mile High 4wheeler 12-27-2010 09:59 PM

I had to drop mine when I put my BDS 2" lift on. Without it the vibration was a little too much.

tazmangk 12-28-2010 01:53 AM

Congrats!

JenkinsJeep95 12-28-2010 10:49 AM

First off congrats you lucky sob!

Second just save a little cash and you can go ahead and get a 4" RC lift for about the same cost as replacing your stock springs, and it should come with everything you need to do it.

You'll get to the bigger tires later ;)

rogertc1 12-28-2010 05:46 PM

Nice Jeep. The Miles are nothing.

scott howard 12-28-2010 07:30 PM

You scored big time!!

jeepnovice 02-24-2011 10:55 AM

Good for you NYYJ! I thought I got a good deal when my bro sold me his 2003 TJ with 67K last summer for $7500. Good luck with it!

whiteyj 02-24-2011 11:05 AM

galaxyblur 02-24-2011 11:06 AM

Nice! Congrats. But as we are seeing the immediate effects of owning a Jeep, it quickly becomes un-free :)

wreck999 02-24-2011 12:35 PM

if your looking for a cheaper solution, perhaps you can get your springs recurved. but every jeep owner knows that jeep stands for( Just Empty Every Pocket)
