heavy duty spare tire carrier

is there a heavy duty spare tire carrier that can be mounted without having to buy an aftermarket rear bumper? i'm looking to mount 33" tire and also salvage the 3rd brake light.

There are a few options as long as your bumper has a flat face.
This is the one I am probably going with because my bumper isn't flatface.

As far as the brake light, you will probably have to fab something up, or have a Machine shop do the same.

right now i have the stock bumpers. eventually i will swap to aftermarket bumpers, not sure when.
that's a sharp looking carrier.....
does that set-up lock the spare tire down?

Bestop

Tompkin (sells in sections, this is the complete version I think)

Just a couple, The mounting system on the Tompkin is what you are looking for with a flat face bumper
Hope it helps

Not sure about the lockdown on the Or-fab but thats when a nice chain/Cable and a lock come in handy. Or I might fab up a locking system with some steel and a welder.

Tomken mounts to stock bumper.

ORFab mounts to the body, as does the Bestop. I hear great things about both of these two. The Bestop opens with the tailgate, but the weight of the tire is on the tub. The ORFab, shown above in Post 2 mounts to the tub too. Both have reinforcments to sandwich the tub's sheet metal, but I'd probably go with corner armor on there just for added weight distribution.

Good point, I already have armor, but I didn't think of that.:)

I put a Bestop on mine 3-4 weeks ago.
Easy install and works great. :)

Did not want to open and close the bumper mounted one to get in the back trunk all the time.

Odhinn,
That looks like the OR-Fab carrier I have on my YJ. Love it! Two Jerry cans, the spare, high lift and a CB whip all mounted to one secure package!
