No Low Beams....

My 97 TJ had a new years surprise for me, the low beams decided they would quit working. The parking lights, signals, and high beams all work fine. I figured no problem its just a fuse. All the fuses were fine. Like any good wrangler owner I turned to the forum. Found some info that suggested the new stereo housing on the aftermarket stereo could be grounding the headlight wire. Took out the radio and it still didn't work. Also installed a new headlight switch. Still no low beams! I consider myself a decent mechanic but i know little to nothing about wiring and electrical issues. Any help/ advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would first check to see if BOTH low beams went bad at the same time. Makes more sense than trying to troubleshoot a problem that is not there to later find this out. Plug a KNOWN GOOD bulb into one of the headlight sockets and try the low beam. If it does not work.....try the other headlight socket.

If neither lights, at least then you will know for sure you are troubleshooting the correct issue and not chasing a coincidence down the wrong path.

my connectors do this, one light would frequently wink at oncoming drivers. ;)

It was the connections right at the headlight. With the lights on, wiggle 'em. Push/pull, anything to see if they turn on. You can also pull the connector off and see if there is any coorosion inside the terminal end. Sand the connectors inside with a folded piece of emory paper then sand the connector on the headlight and put it back together. I also had to bend the tab on my new lights upward in order for it to make a good connection.

Im considering just putting in new connectors or soldering the wires right to the headlight terminals.

This is also happening to me right now I have a 99 TJ also happened around new years a few days before my console had the check gages light on and the battery gage was all the way to the right side on 19 I turned it off and it wouldn't start cleaned off the terminal and got a jump, then it happened again but I kept driving because I didn't want to get stranded and it went back to normal after a few miles. Went to autozone and they said my battery is fine, side markers are fine but head lights only work on high beams and my a/c heater blower only work on the high setting as well but kinda starts working on lower setting when I'm driving. I hate being the a--hole blinding everyone with his brights.

Thanks for all the advice. So I changed the bulbs and still had the problem. Was starting to think that it would be an electrical nightmare. A friend of mine had just done a headlight conversion and gave me his silverstars. I tried them and boom, they worked. Upon further inspection of the "new" bulbs I bought from walmart both had signs of use like someone had returned them. Im not sure what to say but after weeks of hastle the problem is gone and Im not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. Thanks again guys.
