Is this Jeep worth the price?

I have been looking at a 2005 Wrangler X for $14,988. It has 68,285 miles, and quite a few upgrades, you can tell what most of them are from the pictures I will post. Is it worth the price?

i voted no. it seems like it has all the bells and whistles and pretty good mileage. around me it would go for 12 tops. honestly i wouldnt be a buyer. you could get one for less if you look

Lawngnome 01-01-2011 10:24 PM

I4 or I6?

pakman55 01-01-2011 10:27 PM

I4 or I6 is the key. like lawngnome mentioned. Defiantly clean looking, compare it to other similar wranglers in your area for the best look for on price.

Most other Wranglers in my area are soft tops (which I don't want), or have something else that I'm not looking for. This seems to have closest to what I'm looking for. Also its a dealer price.

RatherBNarizona 01-02-2011 01:32 AM

do you have any pictures of the undercarriage? I would shoot for at LEAST two grand less than that. Don't be afraid to walk away from a deal, most managers will run after you and give a better price.

Do you have somewhere to store a hard top? And someone to help remove it, or a hoist?

As mentioned, it looks like a decent Jeep. Look underneath it for signs of trail damage, hunks of mud/grass/animal life.... :) What size are the tires? What rear end does it have? And what gears? I have to say that I did lol at the chrome exhaust tip.... It'll get squashed in a heartbeat if you off road much at all... Check with your lender and find out the loan value on it... Keep in mind that you really shouldn't pay much extra at all for the "upgrades"....

Good luck with your purchase, and don't forget to wave :)

I own a 2005 also, and got mine for only $11,000. So i voted no.

lukesdiesel 01-02-2011 08:32 AM

I am new to Jeeps but Id stay away from 3.07 Gears and the Dana 35c

cru9 01-02-2011 08:39 AM

Yes for sure check the rear axle try to hold out for the Dana 44 rear axle

WatchThis! 01-02-2011 08:44 AM

I had to vote no also. You can get a 05 rubi for the same price.

pakman55 01-02-2011 08:57 AM

I'm not sure what's in your area, but around here (MA/NH) that guy is about $2,500 to $3,000 overprice. I think you should hold out for either A) a cheaper price B) One with out all the bells and whistles that will be MUCH cheaper and do only that add ons you want. I believe dealers think that lifted jeeps are automatically worth thousands more :)

lukesdiesel 01-02-2011 09:03 AM

They get some high $$$ for Jeeps out in our area.

I wouldnt be able to sleep at night trying to sell an I4 with 50k for 15,000.

J10 01-02-2011 09:17 AM

I would offer less but I think it sounds decent, at least if it was in my area. Its got quite a bit of work done to it anyway. I say go for it if its what you want.

Also those arm rests, are those standard for the 05 if not does anybody know where you can get them?

Good luck with the purchase!

The armrests are aftermarket... Check Qtec, etc for them...

italian joe 01-02-2011 10:24 AM

nice jeep but would go for 10 to 12 k, max...keep looking you ll find...good luck:wavey:

T2000J 01-02-2011 10:45 AM

Well said.

JKGirl 01-02-2011 02:39 PM

Agree with the others....seems overpriced.

Search And Destroy 01-02-2011 02:44 PM

8-12 grand is appropriate for that.

jefferyfghezzi 01-02-2011 02:59 PM

I would take it to a mechanic. Tires don't look that good and the wheel wells have been painted. The inside of the fenders should be the same color as the body. (not black as in the picture) I just bought a 2005 with 37,500 miles with an automatic tranmission from FLORIDA without a hardtop for 14,400.(private party AUTO-TRADER) I say NO-NO-NO. You better figure 450.00 to do a 60,000 mile fluid change on it and a tune-upo from the dealer if its never been done.

Actually the wheel wells are supposed to be black. That's a plastic layer before the tub.

coolbreeze 01-02-2011 03:36 PM

What I can see looks good. As mentioned, whats it look like underneath? Pics would be good. As far as price, I don't have any idea. The dealer has wiggle room for sure. Good luck :wavey:

Avalon786 01-02-2011 04:37 PM

I vote no! I picked up my 2010 JK 2 Dr 6 spd for $16,000 brand new :D

Jreed08013 01-02-2011 04:58 PM

I'm thinking about going to talk them down. Does anyone know what the price was of a brand new Wrangler X? Or in 2005 anyway?

Jeepchic70 01-02-2011 07:03 PM

Check the Kelly Blue Book and take into consideration whether or not it has everything YOU want in your Jeep. My choices for my second Wrangler were very specific. Once I found one that was what I wanted, there was no second thought to it as long as the price was within reason and something I could afford. It's YOUR choice so I voted yes.

Work4Mud 01-02-2011 10:11 PM

Look at the Kelley Blue Book, see how much over they have it listed for. If its a dealership then id say its a lot over. Plus everybody thinks they are going to get every dollar back for every extra aftermarket part they put in the jeep.
