rear window stolen

so much for jeep owners community. I was out tonight for a movie and dinner with my girlfriend and when we came out my back window was unzipped and gone. so i hope the guy ro gal who took it enjoys it and i hope the zipper breaks.:flipoff: off to order a new one in the AM. is this a common thing or am i just a lucky guy?

daggo66 01-05-2011 02:23 AM

You're about to find out just how lucky you are. I'm pretty sure that you have to order an entire new set of windows as opposed to just the rear.

_3m 01-05-2011 02:28 AM

Oh that's wonderful, I'll see if I can find one on eBay and have it overnighted. This sucks

Good lord man, who ever did that is low rent. I am going to start thinking of ways to secure my soft top. That's awful.

banditman 01-05-2011 07:38 AM

Sorry thieves. OP I hope you get this resolved. Have you filed an insurance claim? Did you have it locked?

How do you lock a soft top rear window?

Man, that's not cool. Sorry.

But common? I don't think so.

I've heard of people being concerned about the security of their valuables in the Jeep because soft top windows can be unzipped (hence the use of lockboxes, like this one), but I've never heard of somebody actually swiping the windows themselves.

That window is useless to anyone without a JK soft top. It may even need to be the exact same year, as the JK soft tops have had changes over the past few years in ways that make some parts (the rear windows??) year specific.

This sounds more like a prank than anything else--maybe some teenage kid who's dad has a JK so he knows how to unzip the rear.

Hopefully insurance will cover you and you'll end up with a nice new set of windows! Then you can sell your two side windows and even make a few bucks back. Good luck.

That really sux...teenage punks no doubt. I am sooo glad I FINALLY grew up!

firehawk_1989 01-05-2011 09:04 AM

That sucks man.

TheTJRod 01-05-2011 09:21 AM

That totally sucks. I am glad that I have an aftermarket window that only works with the same brand.

BTW, you don't have to get all the windows, you can just order a rear window. MOPAR 5KJ55SX9AA - MOPAR® Softop Tinted Tailgate Window in Black for 2007 Jeep® Wrangler JK - Quadratec$199

Also I found one on ebay for $20 less and included shipping

Turbaru 01-05-2011 09:23 AM

I just received my rear tinted window from the dealer yesterday. They ordered it alone without the two side windows. It has it's own part number. You should be able to order the rear window by itself.

KooL 01-05-2011 09:23 AM

Just take somebody else's. Problem solved. Haha.jk.

_3m 01-05-2011 10:04 AM

Yes I just ordered the rear window alone. It wouldn't have mattered if I have filed an insurance claim or not bc I have a 250 deductible. I don't know if it was a prank or if someone just needed a rear tinted window, either way it suck for me and the bank account.

And yes the jeep was locked, not that it did any good.

yomondo 01-05-2011 10:09 AM

That sucks! Sorry to hear about that.

For those of you concerned about this happening to you, you might consider installing a DEI proximity motion sensor in your tailgate to deter theft of stuff back there (window, spare tire, hi-lift jack, anything in your trunk, etc.). It connects to your oem alarm system and will trigger your alarm if it senses any motion in the area. I have one installed in my center console to protect my MyGig stereo/nav system when topless and doorless. I've been wanting to install a second sensor in the tailgate too, but haven't gotten around to it. I did a write-up a while back on JK-Forum on installing this sensor.

And boy is it ever a write up, pics and everything: (DEI 508D Proximity Motion Sensor addition to stock alarm system)

IndyJeepMan 01-05-2011 10:54 AM

Pretty bad when we can't even stop our tops from being swiped. I guess the criminals know that Jeep's just practically fall apart too! haha.

Really though if you think about it anything that isnt electronics or a "common persons" item, it was prolly stolen by someone who has a Jeep. I worry about my doors and sliding top sometimes. They're worth some change but thats only if I'm downtown or something! Even though I worry, I still dont lock it, or security nut anything down except my spare.

silvrevo 01-05-2011 11:21 AM

And this is why is gots a hardtop,,, peace of mind.

Sucks thou guy,, I really hate theives !!!!!

Jeep should find out a way the the windows cant be unzipped and stolen from the outside.

that's whats really sad is the fact that it is indeed probably a fellow jeep owner who knows that a rear window costs $200. so i get a wave and a swipe ha ha. i guess times are tough and people will cut cost no matter what

Time to lower the deductible..... ;) In most cases it has little effect on the rates..

Agreed -- I lowered my comprehensive deductible to $0 because it really didn't make an appreciable difference in cost.
