LOOK what i traded for

2 Attachment(s)
I recently traded a 99 suzuki quadrunner 500 for a 95 wrangler, its a 4 cyl, with a busted AX5 transmission. So, i figured why not just put an AX15 in it and drive the sh*t out of it. or sell it who knows. I just like testing my mechanical skills.Attachment 34052

cool welcome

Lawngnome 01-05-2011 06:14 PM

Good trade

MikeMTJ 01-05-2011 06:14 PM

AX-15 will not work with a 4 cylinder.

MikeMTJ 01-05-2011 06:15 PM

Oh, and sick trade by the way.

sppfields 01-05-2011 06:16 PM

AX15 will work if you know what you are doing.

sppfields 01-05-2011 06:17 PM

And thanks all. I did the kbb value on it yesterday and was astounded.

Anything is possible if you've got deep pockets and a lot of patience. By the time you're done blowing all that cash, you'd have enough to buy a 6 cylinder after selling/parting out your 4 cylinder.

If you're firm on doing the swap, advanced adapters makes a kit. It's pricey, but you might find it worth it. The other option is finding a 4 cylinder dakota with an AX-15 behind it.

Actually it will... Advance Adapters makes a conversion kit for swapping the ax-5 out for the ax-15. Or if you somehow come across a Dodge Dakota 2.5 ax-15 bellhousing, not all but some Dakotas with the 2.5 used the ax-15 tranny..

sbaird 01-05-2011 06:36 PM

lol mikemyj you beet me to it!

sppfields 01-05-2011 06:36 PM

Already aquired an AX15 out of a cherokee, A dakota bell housing, A busted np 231j transfer case out of an automatic cherokee for the transfer input shaft. All for the total cost of zero dollars, just traded a big block ford motor and trans for it at the local junkyard, He didnt care since the big block would give more weight when he crushes. Bought a rear driveshaft out of a 6 cyl wrangler for 26 dollars. Old model chevy clutch disc, with jeep 6cyl pressure plate and new throwout bearing for 109 dollars. and an advance adapters pilot bushing for 22 dollars shipped. So, now all i have to do is put it all together.

Is"nt it great when you having fun.
nice trade

sppfields 01-05-2011 06:58 PM

Considering i only had 1500 in the 4 wheeler, I was a happy camper. Now i have 2 jeeps.

sevenservices 01-05-2011 07:07 PM

good deal!

superduty_5.9 01-06-2011 12:10 AM

I'm new and still learning but that is F****d up that the AX-15 not a direct replacement for the AX-5. So I take it that the bell housing is different and also the length and also maybe the output shaft spline count? I'm a Chevy guy and a 4cylinder, big block, and diesel all use the same exact bell housing bolt pattern!

Superduty, I laugh with you, not at you. I'm a Chevy guy too. Having a hell of a time getting my head around this crazy little Jeep that my daughter brought home for "us" to fix up.

I really like my Jeep and not trying to bash anything but this is messed up. As a company trying to make a profit you would think you would think time saved is money saved. On a assembly line if you had components to assemble the less the better. One length front driveshaft and rear driveshaft for auto manual 4cyl or 6cyl. ect. It doesn't make logical sense to me and it drives me crazy!:banghead::banghead::banghead::bottom::fired evil:

sppfields 01-08-2011 07:11 AM

I totaly agree with that.

StinkyMud 01-08-2011 07:36 AM

Epic trade. That's like when the Europeans traded salt for diamonds to the Africans.

Just an update. I hope to get the AX15 at least partially installed this weekend. I did swap the 35 inch tires for some 33 inch, so maybe it will be a little easier on the drivetrain. Also i am going to replace the throttle body with one from a 4.0. Got one off e-bay for 25 dollars. And i got the 23 spline input for the transfer installed today. with new seals, so its ready to go back in. Oh and it will be for sale soon.

gennybro 01-11-2011 07:15 PM

What! For sale! #&^%(&^$#_) traitor .

sppfields 01-11-2011 08:21 PM

Not a traitor, still have my 88 wrangler.

gennybro 01-11-2011 08:24 PM
