Got my new GY MT/R with Kevlar

Just got my Goodyear MT/R with Kevlar 285/70/17 installed. Wish the pictures were better but the snow showers didn't make it easy lol. Amazing how quiet these things are for M/T's. Also amazing how a couple inches help fill the wheel well from the 2 1/4" lift

That's a good looking Jeep.

Adian 01-07-2011 02:50 PM

I wish now that I had bought these instead of the Pro Comp Xtreme ATs!!!

Have to wait 40k miles now

Many say that the 285/70/17 rubs on stock wheels with no spacers but I am not sure mine are. I went through some very curvy roads and they were fine. When I did the hardest turn I could do in the parking lot there was something but I am not sure if it was a slight rub or the big tires trying to make that sharp of a turn because I got out and couldn't see it hitting anything and no marks on the tire. Even if it was a very slight rub, how often do you hold a turn at a hard all the way pull.

The picture really doesn't do them justice either. They look awesome in person. Hopefully the weather will clear up sooner or later so I can get a better picture. Wish I thought about getting one at the garage before they pulled it out.

yomondo 01-07-2011 04:34 PM

Congrats! I just put a set on my Jeep yesterday too.

rics1997 01-07-2011 04:39 PM

Thanks, I have just about got it ready for the trail. Going to get the Bob's Smilin' hose extension for the axles, transfer case and tranny to protect from water getting in and the Evap skip, already armored the oil pan and later rocker guards.

Nice.

MT stands for maximum traction for this tire, not mud terrain.
They're considered an aggressive all terrain tire.
Awesome tire on wet streets and on rocks. In fact, the best tire I've ever had on slick scary rocks.
Just use a bit of care in sticky mud; they don't shine there.

NEWWRANGLEROLDCJ7 01-07-2011 06:27 PM

would they fit, on my 2011 rubicon if I had no lift?

daggo66 01-07-2011 06:50 PM

It looks good, but what happens if you have a flat?

rics1997 01-07-2011 07:04 PM

lol, hey I have done 50 mph on a donut, I think the SR-A can work in a pinch. But do plan on replacing it at next tire rotation. I plan on putting the tire cover over that thing if it ever quits snowing.

It should

ESP 01-07-2011 07:42 PM

Let us know once you get her out on the trail and flex them hard to see if they rub there. Nice looking rig man, looks great -

daedalus 01-07-2011 07:48 PM

Unfortunately not in the 285's. And you can't reverse them do to the unique tread pattern. At least that is what is stamped on the tire

Jp90Talon 01-07-2011 08:05 PM

You are correct. I just purchased as set of 35x12.5x15s and I had to be careful that I had them order the correct ones with the black lettering.

Actually that is there weak point on them.. Even more so than the street

Jp90Talon 01-07-2011 08:10 PM

I actually read that this new design does a great job of clearing the mud out of the treads.

Interesting.. I originally thought so to.. But maybe i'm just reading the minority reviews on them.. Ah well in due time rick will add to the opinion of these tires by testing them the way they are meant to be used

Jp90Talon 01-07-2011 08:18 PM

I too can not wait until spring and mud season!

XJ Knight 01-07-2011 08:21 PM

I remember mud.. Got to place nice with that stuff.. You'll get sticky, but it won't be a happy ending if your not careful
