New Front Skid & Door Sill Guards

3 Attachment(s)
Folks,

Thought I'd share some pics.

First is my new front skid from Elevated Offroad, which I think looks great and is a very sturdy product. Glad to see that air dam go. They're a sponsoring vendor here and were great to do business with. Very responsive and reasonably priced.

I've also included pics of my new Mopar door sill guards. These of course barely count as a "mod"--I just figured that since so many Jeepers think about getting them, they might appreciate some actual pics.

I submit it all to the floor for review!

Mike

I give you a "10".

I have the the same door sill guards and love them I went with the Rugged Ridge XHD bumpers and front skid plate. Installing tomorrow. Very impressed with their quality. Not so much with their Gas cap cover. Lock is a POS. I have a work around.

I went with the Rugged Ridge front skid because they were just about the only one that didn't have their name emblazoned across the front.

Looks great

Looks great. Wish the front skid would fit mine.

MTH 01-08-2011 10:43 PM

Thanks all.

Thought about that very issue Daggo, and even looked at the Rugged Ridge skid too. Some of the names are written in HUGE text. Elevated's text is a good bit smaller and I ultimately decided I actually liked the look. Figured I'd give it a shot and am pleased so far!

From a normal view angle yours is probably hardly noticeable, if at all. That other one that we both know which one we are talking about, can be seen a mile away from any angle.

The slush mats are great. When we got the Jeep, the first thing my wife said was "Wow, these are really nice floor mats!" Ridiculous, but true.

love those door sill guards. it's the first thing i did to my new jeep. my previous jeep tj was white and the sills were all marked up by people dragging their feet across them.

I have the Mopar bumper and added the Mopar skid plate.
Seems really solid so like the protection.

Still thought it needed something so then added Wrangler decal to the skid plate!
It doesn't show much but makes a little change. I thought about a Rubicon
decal but figured with two already on the hood, might be a little too much.
I took the stock Wrangler decals off from in front of the door and just left the Unlimited.
It's different!
Think I like it but still debating!
Have fun!

Clever . . . The font is big for my taste, but it's a matter of preference. I wouldn't fault you for sticking with it. The cool thing about a decal is that you can pull it off and do it again. You might have to give it a few tries before you hit it just right.

It's a tough call about what--if anything--to have on a skid. After all, I'm not selling space on a billboard.

I looked for while before settling on the Elevated model, which uses a font that is relatively small, but yet still unique and interesting. My only concern was that it was a little "extreme"--like I should be at the X Games chugging energy drinks, whereas the reality is that I'm a 31 year old lawyer.

It ended up fitting the bill perfectly. It's just a little "edgy," but you'd have to be scrutinizing the Jeep to even notice it. Even if you did spot it, it's "quiet" enough that you won't think anything of it unless you're into Jeeps. But, if you notice it AND you're into Jeeps, I bet you'll want to stoop a bit to get a better look! And that's what I was going for.

I was trying to avoid anything that had the effect of reaching off the Jeep, grabbing you by the throat, and demanding you read it.

Here's another shot to help give a sense of how "low key" the skid actually is. I tried getting a few from farther away today, but my cell phone camera can't pick up the writing at all from any more than a few feet.

MTH, I do concur and prefer to be a little more subtle than most of the manufactures who wish to advertise their handiwork. Maybe its the low profile I'm trying to keep after retirement from sitting on the bench for 20 years.:)

I decided to stay away from color and especially white. Almost went with a black decal on black but decided to try the silver for the time being. I'll live with it a while and see how I feel. The comforting thing is that, as you mentioned, it is a "sticker" and can easily be changed or removed. Kinda like taking it under advisement.

Thanks for the thoughts and opinions. I do really enjoy the uniqueness and variety of options we have with these vehicles.
And especially the capability. I had a marvelous day off-road today.

MTH they look great! The sill guards were the first thing we bought for the Rubicon.... :)

Sonorasun, the sticker is a unique touch... :)

I wish the mechanic hadn't taken it upon himself to order the factory air dam for hubby's Jeep last week, I really wanted to get him a skid instead.... :( But hubby was in a hurry and didn't want to cause a fuss, so we ended up with another dang piece of plastic to rip off, again.....

BlackMountain 01-10-2011 09:27 AM

where did you get the sill guards MTH?

I needed the four door set obviously, but here they are for your two door: (Door Entry Guards by Chrysler and Other Jeep Parts and Jeep Accessories by 4 Wheel Drive Hardware-RH1).

And, now that's all I drive. And being able to drive anywhere, anytime without appt.'s, itineraries or billable hours. In shorts! That's what it's all about!!! :D

 I picked the "skidrow" front skid, because with the perforated "SKIDROWOFFROAD" in the plate there is extra airflow for my auxcooler sys--

That looks good. I was *this* close to going with that skid.

Like the bumper too.

Thank you. The bumper usually meets a lot of disdain on the forums, but I like it and I was able to mount tow hooks to the frame just below it, but you can't see them in that picture. I was shocked at how heavy that skid plate was. It was tough trying to hold it up to bolt it in place.

What's wrong with the bumper? I don't think it "goes" with the look of my Jeep, but I can see why folks like them and it works on yours. Especially with the top down--it appears designed to coordinate with the roll bars.

If I recall, the specs on the Rugged Ridge skid had it at a full 1/4" thick. That's a lot--Elevated's is pretty thick at 3/16".
