Bumper Time

Ok - I though I had my mind made up with the Four Real Steel: Krusher Jr. bumper... but a few others have caught my eye.

Four Real Steel Rocker Krusher Junior Front Bumper

Toys by Troy Front Rock Bumper

Fabtech Prerunner Front Bumper in Black

Rugged Ridge Heavy Duty Off-Road Front Bumper

All have the space for future winches, and only 2 have tabs for D-rings, and the TbT bumper has that handy radiator-hoop just in case... but does anyone have 1st hand experience with any of these?

Joe Dirt 04-22-2007 01:43 AM

I like the Rugged Ridge. All tub just looks too much like a desert runner. The Rugged Ridge looks like an ARB bumper, which I like too.

1BLKJP 04-22-2007 02:14 AM

Personally and I can speak from experience. Troy's stuff is junk. That bumper very rarely fits most winches and Troy is a huge PITA to deal with.

I like the Fabtech bumper and have been thinking about picking that up or building something similar.

jherrin215 04-22-2007 02:22 AM

I agree on the tube bumper, I like a bigger bumper, not a big fan of the tubes

Jerry Bransford 04-22-2007 02:24 AM

I'd choose any of the other three before I'd take the Rugged Ridge. Too big/massive appearing for the front of a Jeep for me, even though I realize it does a better job of protection.

For rock crawling which is popular in your home state of Arizona like it is here in SOCAL, I prefer a stubby that gives a better approach angle. I had Zach at AtoZ Fabrication make up this one... 44" long, stinger, built-in winch mount, shackle tabs, and light tabs. It turned out great, Zach does great work. :)

Ok - I've been doing some more lookin' and am liking the looks of the Hanson 52" bumper with the hoop... but I can't see spending $600 on a front bumper :(

I think I'm leaning twords the Fabtech now because of zero tire interference.

Anyone else have pics of what they are running?

jeeperx2 04-22-2007 06:57 PM

This is my homemade fabtech/foureal obviously my pick!:) http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q...pbumper003.jpg

Here, I'll confuse you some more. How about the Currie with the radiator hoop.

Currie Enterprises CJ Axle Parts

Currie Enterprises CJ Axle Parts

Currie Enterprises 4x4 Rear Ends Bumpers

AzTJ 04-22-2007 07:15 PM

its just the bottom thats the FRS right? I can't remember, but did you fab the whole thing or chop 2 bumpers up?

AzTJ 04-22-2007 07:18 PM

I don't think I'd like the front of my jeep looking like an arrowheard.

jeeperx2 04-22-2007 07:26 PM

i fabbed the whole thing mostly FT looking except for lower hoop is FRS looking

The best top High Rock looks similar to the Hanson but for less money.

AzTJ 04-22-2007 08:15 PM

meh... yeah, but I don't like it stretching all the way from the outside of the fender to the other....

SurfnSnow 04-23-2007 12:46 AM

I've got the Fab-tech bumper and I like it. It's solid, and well built the only thing is that you need to purchase fog light extensions for about $25. Trail Gear has a similar bumper (like the Fab-Tech) and I think it's cheaper price wise but their quality is top-notch

Joe Dirt 04-23-2007 01:56 AM

Check out the bumpers at 4x4xplor.com - Jeep TJ Wrangler, JK, CJ and XJ Cherokee Write-Ups I really like the looks of the LOD stuff.

upinar 04-23-2007 12:56 PM

Tube Bumpers!!!

richp 04-23-2007 01:31 PM

ARB makes a nice front one, I'm on my second one, daughter broke a saturn in half with the first one.

AzTJ 04-23-2007 02:24 PM

if I'm not willing to spend $600+ on a Hanson, then an ARB is outta the question.

MOz 04-23-2007 03:18 PM

I just bought the Model SRC from Rugged Ridge. Nice all around, it has excellent protection, spots for extra stuff and is rugged. I'm adding a Milemarker winch this weekend so I'll let you know if it goes wrong. (I do not forsee any issues, I already installed the mounting plate without any problems.)

ABS has a similar unit but is much more expensive but can knock down a house. Pocket the extra cash and buy a winch...that's what I did .

jeeperx2 04-23-2007 04:36 PM

I dont know what labor rates are in AZ ? our fab shop is 75 hr thats only 6 hrs to build it from scratch that would be tough to do unless they have a pattern/parts lying around? just a thought

AzTJ 04-23-2007 05:11 PM

Well I'm giving my friend a call tomorrow to order my lift and stuff so I'm gonna see what he has to say about a custom one.

debruins 04-23-2007 06:43 PM

this does look good.

Save money, keep stock bumper add winch and tow hooks, take 300-500 you would have spent and get a front locker...if you already don't have one...

AzTJ 04-24-2007 01:12 AM

Anyone ever hear anything about TrailGear? They have a complete setup for $800... but I'm taking notice of thier bumper thats a Fabtech look alike for only $300.

Yeah, I've seen them before. Look pretty good, but I still prefer the Fabtech one. However I've heard rumor that the Fabtech one isn't going to be made anymore. I guess I need to make up my mind and pull the trigger if I want to pick it up.

I don't know why I typed ARB, I meant 'WARN', the winch people. Nice part about it you can add a winch tray later on if you want.
I got the warn for $200 at local 4x4 shop here in the poconos, the second one cost me $220 5 months later...

blownfanswitch 04-24-2007 07:45 AM

Those are nice bumpers, but I think I'm going Shrockworks when I get the cash to pull a new bumper.
