Toyota FJ40

This was my brothers project. It is a 78(?) Toyota FJ-40. It has a 350 in it out of an older Chevrolet Suburban. It also has the 3/4 Ton axles from underneath the Suburban and the GM power-steering installed. He cut the floor out of the Suburban and put it in the back of the FJ along with the removable seat out of the Suburban. He also took off the back doors and made a tailgate with a plexiglass upper that opens upwards and then the tailgate opens down. It did have 20s with 37s on it but when he sold it, the guy wanted 33s on it so my brother traded the rims and tires off of it. It involved a lot of custom work. I personally like it, I know it's not supposed to be some massive custom off-roader. I just like the way it looks. Let me know what you guys think. (Also, without the wheels this build cost all of 2,500 dollars) Also, the guy who bought it wanted the tube bumper on it. (it's the old one off my Jeep :) )

I am glad most of you guys/gals like it...It sounds really good with the 350 and Flowmaster Shortys...I would take a video but nothing I have to record it can actually capture the sound of it.

these are the updated pics with smaller tires on it..

Ahh...memories. I had a 1971 FJ40 that was bone stock I bought at a dealership in 1998. It was traded in on a Buick LeSabre...old guy restored it and traded it for the car. I bought it for $2500 out the door. No one wanted it. Inline 6 cyl. with 3 on the speed was 45 mph...I sold it for $3500 after 2 months of driving 45 thing was, it was totally restored. I sold it with the little skinny bias ply tires and toyota chrome moon hubcaps. It was restored to original. Wish I had it now...

That is a nice rig you got there...just be aware that parts are pricey for them...even worse than jeeps...

Those were the best Toyota's built. I took one for a test drive in Aus' when I was looking once, it had a 350 in it, man it was leathal! to much power for that little thing, I didn't buy it

OsageJeep 01-12-2011 07:46 PM

haha yeah it does have a lot of power. We had to build some custom control arms for the rear because it was dang near impossible to drive before.

Tarby, I love the CJ in your pic. When I was looking for the Jeep I have now, I tried to get my hands on one that was completely restored and beautiful but the guy never got back to me. When you look at an old CJ they just look good.

I have been tryin to talk my brother into building a Jeep once it warms up and I think he is warming up to the idea. I think it'll be fun
