Hello! I am new to this forum and also a new owner of a 2005 jeep sport. I purchased this jeep oct 2010 with 69,500 miles. Torwards the end of Nov. it started making this horrible noise when I would first crank it and then after driving little over half a mile it stops. Here recently it still has somewhat of a squealing noise just not real loud.I have read alot of threads on camshaft sensor/oil pump drive, not sure if this is the issue that is why I would like some feedback. I have no lights come on, it drives fine, but the noise seems to come from the passenger side around the oil filter area. Any help would be appreciated. http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QVQNcDPzYg

I'm not exactly sure what it is but you should definately stop driving it and only run the engine for short periods until you do repair it. If it is the oil pump drive and it blows while your driving, it will more than likely blow the motor before you even notice somethings wrong. If you can't figure it out, take it to somebody who can.

As stated that does not sound good. Are you getting any Check engine light on the dash or other codes? I have no idea what that sounds is sorry.

Thanks for the replies. I am getting no check engine light. All fluids are good. It is really weird because when it first started I thought maybe belt but then after listening closer the sound is coming more from the middle passenger side area of the engine. I am definately going to get it checked by a mechanic, I just thought someone on here may have had this before.

sounds like you've got a chipmonk. Is any antifreeze leaking at all? It could be the waterpump getting ready to give up the ghost.
As far as the oil pump theory, TJ's have an oil pressure gauge don't they? Do you notice any pressure drop when the noise starts?

Almost sounds like a pressure leak of some kind.

Are you sure you just don't need your belts replaced.

Well, I further evaluated this noise and yes it is the oil pump drive. Thanks for all the replies
