what has nobody ever had this happen to them lol

gennybro 01-18-2011 06:43 PM

Nope!

I replaced one... Look up the handles on eBay or JC Whitney or something... When my handle was missing, I would reach in the outside and grab the rod. Push it down to open the door.

There are two retaining clips on the inside holding the handle in. They slide up and out, then the handle will drop to the outside. Simple rod w/clip connection. But, you have to pull your inside door grab handles and window cranks. Then disconnect the bottom of the door panel, lift up and it should come off. With the panel off, its much easier to work with.

Well now, maybe just get out the oxy actelene torch and start cutting away,[only kidding] It is kinda funny though, unfortunatly you dont see it that way. Is it a solid door, cloth, what is it?Can ya post a picture of it.Can ya maybe unbolt it from the hinge side of the door> ya just dont give us any information to give you any suggestions on helping ya out.

if it is a typical jeep half door it is easy, well easyish with the door closed. if you have a soft top on you can follow the below step if you got a hard top...GL.

there are 3 torx screws, 2 holding the door pull handle and one in the door opening handle area. after that you have to find a way to remove the upper halves of the door. im sure you could remove the top partially so you can get access to the upper door sealing surface and unlatch that then remove the upper halves.

next remove the 3 square looking things that the upper halves slide into after that the door panel is only held in place by push pins or what i like to call christmas trees, becareful if the plastic is cold as u dont want to snap it.

once the door panel is off youre on your own as ive not gone digging in the door much, but theres not a whole lot in there just door rods for the locks and latches.

hope at least a little bit of this helped

You might have to pull your drivers seat out to have enough room. but you need to remove the door panel, once its off it should be easy to get your door off and bring it in to fix it.

I just had to do this to my door last week (TJ)(only broke the outside handle). make sure you GREASE everything when you put it back together, I think this was my problem, the cheap lube I used wore away and the friction caused things to be bent until it slipped.

yea the inside and outside handle both dont work lol i can see were the door latchs shut to can i pri up on both the claps that hold the door shut and get them to release isnt that what the door handles does pulls the to claw looking things apart so the door can open

Peepers 01-19-2011 11:09 AM

The door handles pull a pin so the claw part that grabs onto the door pin can swing freely.

Same thing just happened to mine today at the first stop of a six stop errand run. Lots of funny looks from people watching me crawl in and out of the passenger side.

Thanks for the info - I will be putting it to good use tonight.

blackwrangler357 01-27-2011 06:32 PM

lmao its easy fix takes 20 mins get panel off

sevenservices 01-28-2011 10:05 AM

yeah 20 minutes to get the door apart and about 5 seconds to replace the broken clip... ;)

merlinmaine 04-27-2012 04:56 PM

Peepers , can you describe the pin? I have the door apart and can move all the rods etc, but can't get the claws to release.
