Exhaust ideas,

Hey everyone, im considering changing out my exhaust and i would really like to know what the best thing i can get is.. I do plan on a larger lift in the future so it would be nice to already have this set. Plus id like to get a couple extra horsepower and of course id like some noise... :)

Id really like a simple install, i have tools for cutting and know how to weld but im really looking for a bolt on considering the jeep is practically new. Please help!!

remember: just because it's LOUD, doesn't mean it sounds GOOD.

Ditch the cats if you really want any gains. Stainless headers and true dials all the way is what I want.

Schwheelz 01-18-2011 07:47 PM

Im not very well spoken on my exhaust systems, im a bit better in the suspension arena

Schwheelz 01-18-2011 07:48 PM

So if you could explain?!?! Thank you:)

Did you mean "duals"?

captgentry 01-18-2011 08:39 PM

More air in and more air out = more power.

Yes duals. With some nice baffled mufflers. Not glass packs which will burnout and sound bad.

JIMBOX 01-18-2011 08:59 PM

:zap: If you toch the catalytic converters, you're asking for STATE trouble, but

I've got Flowmaster 40 DUAL cat-back with a great/loud/rap/burble sound and got rid of the "HUGE" stock tank, hanging in the assend !!

SS tips

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...y/PICT0101.jpg

I don't know if there's more power, but it feels good/sounds good and handles bigger tires with ease--no drone, if you don't overload the gear/speed-

:rofl::rofl: JIMBO

How much did that run you?

Sort of true but there is a peak at which the max air in and out are met for the application and you will no longer increase power.

JIMBOX 01-19-2011 08:37 AM

;) I've got a buddy with a muffler shop, but I wouldn't accept any SUPER price breaks, cause he had two guys working on it-and had to pay them, so the total cost for everything, was $400 bucks

They had never done a JK muffler setup like this so I did the layout and bend points-

It worked out great, after two years, no leaks/vibrations/heat problems, we used some of the heat shield from the stock muffler, to shield in the new muffler position !!

You can put the NEW much smaller muffler, in the stock position, but

I'll tell ya, you can't get any DUAL EXHAUST sound, unless you have at least 6 ft of "DUAL" pipes, for harmonic/pulse /sound reverberations-sounds like BS, but it ain't !!!

Without the cost of labor.. How much were parts? Whered you get ahold of them?

clear lake jeepn 01-19-2011 09:07 AM

Flowmaster here too....love it...was $125 installed.

JIMBOX 01-19-2011 09:27 AM

:D Don't know, this was in Ca. and he had Flowmaster/Delta/ and some cheap ones, being a muffler shop-everything was there-don't know the individual prices !!

The Flowmaster 40 cat-back was the right physical size to fit in that spot--ya gotta checkitout-

I'm biased, because I've used Flowmasters on most of my muscle cars and I was addicted to the sound !!

I am thinking of the Gibson Dual exhaust. Look on youtube, there are some videos of all kinds of exhaust. Search google or whatever for the best prices.

I just added this week the Airaid CAI and the Magnaflow cat back set-up and love it, not too loud until you get on it and on the highway it was a good smooth tone.

Avalon786 01-23-2011 09:49 AM

You guys know if changing the exhaust will void part of the warranty:confused:

JIMBOX 01-23-2011 09:54 AM

:D Heh Heh, yea if you install new muffler/piping/tips-etc

There's no warranty replacement for the stock muffler !!

:rofl::rofl: JIMBO

LAXADAISICAL616 01-23-2011 04:40 PM

I have the Gibson Dual Tip Exhaust and love it. Gets fairly loud some times but I enjoy the rumble and sound overall. Definitely turns heads and feels great to drive

OsageJeep 01-23-2011 04:59 PM

I was thinking replace the catalytic converter and put on a flowmaster but Idk..I knocked a hole in my stock muffler playing offroad :) so I am interested in finding something

JakeRupp 01-23-2011 05:00 PM

I have a Borla exhaust, and love it because I don't want it obnoxiously loud, but sounds beefier than stock.

Schwheelz 01-23-2011 06:43 PM

So is the gibson dual tip on the louder side?

From what everyone says...Yes :D

LAXADAISICAL616 01-24-2011 10:54 AM

I haven't had any other exhausts, but my Gibson Dual Tip is pretty loud. Don't think obnoxious though.

Where did you pick yours up? Just a muffler shop?

jrohan07 01-24-2011 01:19 PM

Picked mine up here...Gibson Muffler Superflow Natural, Stainless steel
Sounds really good with no drone..looks better with dual tips.

LAXADAISICAL616 01-24-2011 01:34 PM

I bought my Jeep used from a dealership and the previous owner happened to install it :D Good find

silvrevo 01-24-2011 01:41 PM

Dual exhausts on wranglers is about the worst look out there....WTF up with some people!

Best thing to do is get rid of that big trash can muffler in the back! Anything smaller will do.

Power wise,,, well your cant polish a turd!!!!!!!!!
