My new My 1990 YJ Lifted! And question on carb rebuild.
Hey guys, I`m new to the site and figured I would show off the new toy. It`s got about 70,000 miles on it, 6" suspension lift with a 2" body lift, and 35`s. And as you can see a few leaks I`m in the process of fixing! Anyways, I got the carb all apart and it is in need of a desperate rebuild. It appears to be the stock carb, but the only thing that is stamped on it is "Carter Weber". Where can I find a rebuild kit for this? I am not quite interested in spending the money for a new carb upgrade, would love to rebuild this one if the parts are available. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Nice Jeep :) Make sure the axles can handle those tires and the drive train is properly set up for that big of a lift :)
Sorry, can't help you on the carb part :(
Oh and welcome to the Forum!! :wavey:

For less than 300 bucks you can get a Weber performance carb off places like ebay. They come complete and would be your best bet. Rebuilding carbs epecially if you dont really know much about them could be less forgiving. And finding people who work on them are getting harder to find. I'm not saying you cant rebuild it... sure you can, I just dont like working on them just like I dont like working on auto transmissions:) BTW thats a nice looking rig and w/ 6" lift and 35s be sure you have a slip yoke eliminator.

Get ready for a new carb.. The Cater is junk..from the factory junk.. I had mine rebuilt and it wouldnt run right so I bought two YES two others.. All of them junk.. The will never idle right.. EVER! They drip gas and if you rebuild it it may run right for a few weeks thats it.. I ended up using a Holley I pulled from a Dodge.. As soon as I put it on.. SMOOTH idle.. 4wd.com look up the Webber I think you can get one for about 299..
The Carters tend to leak air in the throttle shaft.. spray a little ether there and listen to it speed up..

Thanks for the info guys! And yes I can see mine is leaking air by the shaft, was going to drill out the holes the shaft sits in and insert bushing but by the sounds of it a new carb just might be the way to go, ahh well. Thanks!

Can I get a recommendaton on a carb model? I`ve looked up a few and seen that the weber WEBWK551-36S is a decent price..all I want is a reliable one that will run clean! Not looking for extra hp really.

Not sure what you are looking to spend for your new carb. For less than a $150.00 you can convert to a MC2100. It is very easy to rebuid and install. Online support info is great, including step by step rebuild and installation instructions with photos. If you prefer, there is a guy on Ebay that sells a kit. Have done this mod to mine, this is the best thing I have done for my jeep.

I put a Weber on my 4.2 and it runs way better then it did on with the carter. I still have some more work to do but I am glad I did it.
