Help please!

I was in 4L getting through some deep snow to show off against a 97 F350 I showed him up big time, but when i shifted back i heard a grind. The 4wd is working fine it's still just as tough to get out of 4L as it was before and 4H works perfectly smooth shifting and everything, but now whenever i turn my axle squeaks with that metal on metal noise. Now 4L hasn't been used in a long long time and it is the peak of winter... should i get it checked out or is it something that will go away once the weather warms up a bit.

How fast were you moving when you switched out of 4lo couldve really worn down the gears

Couldn't have been doing 5 mph and i dont think it has to do with the Transfer Case cuz its only when i steer the thing thats getting me is i heard the grind then noticed the squeeking... but could it be from the fact that it was sitting in snow up to its axles? I'm just not sure enough that what its from is the cold weather :(

Is it front or rear axle making noise

If it squeaks all the time when the wheels are cut now its prob an axle joint alot of t-cases will grind every now and then when shifting in and out of gears it might have been a fluke and u finished off an axle joint while showing the ford what a real 4WD will do!

If its the front it probably an axle joint butcan also be on the drive shaft or some bearing or something

yes it is the front axle and i drove it the whole way home, its definately the front axle i didn't notice any change in the way it drove just that loud squeeking noise that haunts my dreams :p

Is it only when you turn? Try jacking the front end up and check for play in the u joints.. If theyre greasable grease them. You can also try taking the front driveshaft out to see if that makes it go away

greasing did the trick some good ol fashioned WD-40 no more squeak it was definately cold. The high for the past 3 days was a stunning 10 degrees and last night it was below zero without windchill factor.
