Neighbors are gonna think I've lost it...

Last week I bought an 05 Wrangler Sport with 29k on it, was looking for something older, but this was a good deal, super clean and well taken care of...bought it to play on the weekends or when I don't feel like riding the Harley, mostly haul the dogs around in it. My first Jeep too...I am enjoying the thing so much, that I just ordered an '11 Rubicon, 6spd manual, dual black tops, as my other car. Trading in the Avlanche...will be ready to pick up tomorrow.

Am I going to like this over the Sahara?

jk'n 01-28-2011 02:31 PM

Speaking from the experience of owning a 08 Sahara and then getting the 08 Rubicon I can say YES!!!

JDsDream 01-28-2011 02:48 PM

The only thing better than owning a Wrangler, is owning 2 Wranglers.

MTH 01-28-2011 02:48 PM

Neighbors might just be straight up jealous.

You'll be one of the few on the forum who can really talk about the pros, cons, and differences between the TJ (pre-2007) and JK (2007-2011) Wranglers. Congrats.

Looking forward to seeing pics of both.

kik 01-28-2011 03:05 PM

Sounds like a great deal with low mileage, congrats. Had an 06 TJ that was traded for a 10 Rubi 2dr 6spd. The TJ was great, but we do lean more toward the Rubi. As far as liking it over the Sahara, that depends. The Saharas are real nice also. You couldn't go wrong with it. I do like having what the Rubi's have to offer so I think you will be real happy with it. However, nothing can take the place of our 89 4.2 YJ. Still going strong after 22 yrs. but a lot less refined than the Rubi. Good luck with both. :thumb:

You've got it made, two Jeeps? I wish

seadog 01-28-2011 07:18 PM

Two??? I'm so effin' jealous.

Congrats.

firehawk_1989 01-28-2011 07:20 PM

NICCEE! Jealous.

JKT69 01-28-2011 08:02 PM

Thanks for the info...when I bought the 05 last week it was to take the dogs camping, etc, do some wheeling...turns out the damn thing is so much fun that I can get a Rubicon for less than the Avlanche I now have, and since I am divorced, no kids and just two dogs to support it's not that big a deal. I can't believe I'm 41 and just now discovering JEEP. I discovered Harley a couple years ago, and yeah, that's tons of pleasure, but this is something completely different.

So, I haven't seen the Rubicon yet, but, it's natural green, black and tan interior, 6spd manual, dual tops (which I plan to use both, summer and winter), and it has a bunch of other things I didn't care if it had or not, Navigation, connectivity package, etc. Stuff I will probably never use or let me say, wouldn't miss it if I didn't have it. Now, where's the trails...

Can't wait until tomorow...

*Now don't get me wrong, I miss being married sometimes, and I'm sure you guys as the primary bread winner could do what I'm doing and have 2 wranglers, but is it worth not being married or seeing your kids? Course not, but, since I'm divorced, might as well not sit around the house, and get out there in the middle of it...carpe diem.

Avalon786 01-28-2011 08:46 PM

be sure to post up some pics!!!

edit: YAY! 100 Posts :D

bobjenkins 01-28-2011 10:09 PM

I don't think you've lost it . I think you've found it! Twice!

sinduda216 01-28-2011 11:13 PM

already got my second one planned out, well a pretty decent idea of it. but going to wait until the the new chapter in my life, you know the whole family deal so when that happens i'll get a 4 door and hopefully be able to keep my 2dr and wheel the hell out of it because i do not want to trade it in for anything

myjeepandmydog 01-28-2011 11:58 PM

^ That sounds like a good plan. My wife who will be graduating from Pharmacy school soon, jokingly told me she would buy me a new JK in a few years with the new engine. To me it wasn't a joke. Guess I better start cooking.

bobjenkins 01-29-2011 12:00 AM

Ok cya for real time to go to sleep

sinduda216 01-29-2011 12:00 AM

Picked up the Rubicon a couple hours ago...two words "Oh my". I will post some pics later. Natural Green w/black top, black and saddle tan interior, 6spd manual. Now, that is a freakin man ride. Impressed with the ride, and surprisingly the noise from the MT's are not loud at all. So happy I was able to find a manual, everything in B'ham is auto, had the dealer do a search and shipped this one in from Columbus, GA.

Looking great! I bet the dogs like the extra room too!

Getting to know the Rubicon, so far I am very impressed. Got a question for Rubicon, manual tranny owners. I noticed that when I am on a hill, in 1st gear and come to a stop, when I let off the clutch it doesn't roll backwards. It will sit there no brakes and not move for like 3 seconds, then it will roll backwards. Is this a feature to help prevent spinning out while stopped on a hill off road? It's pretty cool. I didn't know it did that. I even put it in neutral and took my foot off the brake and it just sits there...

Any other features like this? I heard rumors about an anti-stall while in 4L.

BlackMountain 01-31-2011 02:56 PM

yes thats the new hill assist feature that you are referring to

It's called "Hill Start Assist." It's been in every Wrangler since . . . I want to say 2008. Could be off a year one way or the other. It's designed to prevent you from rolling while trying to get going on a hill. Starting in 2010, it's also included in the auto transmissions just to keep a trailer from hauling (or pushing) you on a hill. It's keyed to your use of the brake pedal, such that the harder you push the pedal, the more aggressively the HSA system will hold you in place once you release it.

If you haven't already, go here and download a copy of your manual. Then do a word search for "HSA." You'll find the little write-up on it from Jeep. If the system ever bothers you, you can turn it off.

All manual Wranglers also have the anti-stall "feature." I think it might just be a consequence of the gear ratios rather than an actual "feature," but in any event the result is that once you get it moving, the Jeep will continue to creep forward and avoid stalling even without you touching the gas and even while going up a hill. This will happen in 2wd, 4H, or 4L. I can, for example, crawl up the hill out of my neighborhood without pressing any pedal at all.

The difference with 4L, I believe, is that even if you step on the brake, it won't stall and will in fact keep moving. In 2wd or 4H, it'll just stall once you stamp on the brake if you haven't shifted to neutral.

daggo66 01-31-2011 03:06 PM

It's called Hill Start Assist and it's in all Wranglers since '09. The amount of hold is directly proportionate to hard hard you push the brake in when you stop. The anti stall is part of the 6 speed transmission and has been there all along, not just in Rubicons either. Put it in 4L and crawl in 1st gear. DO NOT touch the gas. You can practically stand on the brake without stalling it. You can also start the engine in 1st gear in 4L without using the clutch. This is a feature to prevent water ingestion in the clutch if you should stall during a water crossing.

I just bought a 92 YJ from my neighbor about a month ago....and the neighbor thinks its great! Best part about it is that it came with the hard top, two soft tops, half doors, full doors, relocation mirrors, lifted, larger tires, pretty well set up for the trail. Got it for my son who will be driving in December. Guess I'll have to put it through its paces this summer though....you know....just to keep everything lubricated!

Regarding the hill assist, that started recently. The no stall feature is quite something. Take it off road point it up a steep hill. Put it in 4 low. In first gear let out on the clutch. Stand on the brake and you'll know that the engine doesn't even whimper. That feature is pretty cool...and I learned about it here on WF. It wouldn't have occurred to me to try that. But when I did, it was as advertised.

MikeMTJ 01-31-2011 03:11 PM

You should totally turn that 2005 into a trail monster....I've always wanted a second jeep that I don't have to worry about driving to work the next day.

xSolstice 01-31-2011 03:15 PM

Nice ride! I went from a 2 seater Pontiac Solstice GXP speed buggy to a Jeep Unlimited. My neighbor asked if I was alright.

FalconRods 01-31-2011 04:03 PM

Nice rigs dude - reading through the string, the "hill assist" feature has taken me sometime to get used to. Need to find that reference to how to turn it off. I have stalled mine once and attribute it to that feature. Seems the harder you set, the harder it is to power away from - hope that makes sense.

Congratulations again.
