Hi guys. I'm from the TJ side of this forum but have a question about a Dana 300. My son has a cj7 and ordered LoMax 4:1 gear set for it and wanted to know if putting them in ourselves is something we want to undertake. I have rebuilt my 231 and it was not a big job but wanted your opinion of wether we should try it or find someone to do it for him. Thanks.

You should be able to rebuild a Dana 300. If you did a 231

Hey Texas T, hopefully we have gears by then! Still haven't arrived...

Little more consuming than a NP231 but doable.Only tip I have is when installing the 48 roller bearings.Use an 11/16: socket to hold all the rollers in there. You'll see what Im talking about when you disassemble it
If you lose any parts or need any, I have 3 Dana 300s disassembled here.Good Luck

Well it took a while, but we rebuilt the tcase and upgraded to LoMax gears. All went together good even the 48 needle bearings (thanks for the tip). The difference the 4to1 makes is unbelievable. Great upgrade project.

the difficult part of the Dana 300 is to set bearings endplay with shims, not a big deal but you have to take care of it, 231 is way easier, just put the bearings on
