Engine Belt & Front Shock Question
So I bought a Groupon coupon for a $19 oil change at the Dealership near my apt and they must have done a full inspection of my TJ because it took an hour and a half. Normally i wouldnt get an oil change at a dealership, but for $19 it seemed worth it. the reason i suspect they did an inspection is they were looking for ways to get me to spend more $ while i was there.

They said that the main belt on the engine is starting to crack and i should replace it ($90) but that it may last another week, another month or even longer.

They also said the front shock (which is at an angle in the engine as the person explained to me) is leaking and i will start to notice the car fram shake when i hit bumps. i havent noticed anything so i told them not to fix anything.

Are these things i would be able to replace fairly easily myself, or worth having a non-dealership garage look at?

As always thanks for the help

Belt is around $30 at any auto parts store...just need a rachet to change it...simple job anyone can do.

The "angled shock" they are talking about is your steering stabilizer...and is NOT a shock. Also not "in" the engine is on your draglink (steering bars in front of the front axle)
Rancho one is $50....again...only need a rachet/wrench to change...another simple job anyone can do.

Good to know. I will def look into doing that myself. would the steering stabilizer leak a neon yellow liquid?

Neon yellow/green would lead to antifreeze/coolant leak. :( Only yellow/green fluid you have.

thats not good, i will have to look into that as well. i noticed it the other day when we had fresh snow. it looked like a broken highlighter in a few spots, just a cluster of drops, not a puddle or anything.

I noticed the drops of neon yellow/green spots onthe snow last monday and havent noticed any issues with over heating/etc and the dealership didnt say anything about it when i was there saturday for an oil change. is it possible that isn't a leak but another issue?

Check your overflow bottle. if it's to full, it can leak out.

ok, good to know i will check that tonight

So i checked my Overflow bottle and it was very low. the engine temp gauge wont go over the middle range (210 if i remember correctly) so this makes me think it is the overflow bottle that is leaking not the radiator. I am going to fill it up tonight and see if i can spot a leak.
