At wits end.....Help!!!
First off..1995 Wrangler 4.0, Automatic, 3in Lift, cold air intake with K&N, gale banks torque tube header and exhaust (no cat). Just rolled over 100K.

I have been struggleing with this thing for 2 months and counting and I am hoping maybe one of ya'll can help me. I just cant keep it running, sometimes it will stall while driving, sometimes while idling, sometimes it will start back up, sometimes it will just crank. It is getting fuel, but intermitten spark. I have read through miles of ya'lls post and applied your advice..still no luck. Heres a run down of what I have done, any suggestions would help out I am seriously out of Ideas!!

What has been done so far:
New distributor, pick up coil x2, ign coil x2, plugs, wires, dist. cap, crank sensor x2, all new relays, all PDC connections clean and good, all pins on main computer connector read good (voltage and continuity), all fuses read good with ohm metter,Performed "brain surgery" replacing the capacitors in the computer. only 2 CEL codes 12 and 55-bat loss last 50 starts and end of codes. compression great, timing right on. fuel press. 35 psi, new fuel press reg.

What I know: If it dies in the garage when idling and wont start back up, I have no spark when checked, plenty of fuel. Sits for a while spark comes back and it cranks up. When driving, it will usually start back up before it quits rolling, no idea what its doing hard to drive from under the hood! but pretty sure its getting fuel because it sometimes backfires through the exhaust(pumping raw fuel into cylinders and igniting in exhaust I guess). When its running it purrs like a kitten, it never quits under any repeatable condition.. sudden braking, hard accel., rough roads ect.

I love this thing, I have the jeep disease and now this is turning into a personal battle! Please if any of ya'll have any ideas, man Im wide open!!

Thanks in advance

just for kicks... check your ground at the opposite end of the battery cable. As well, check the + side at the opposite end. I had a similar issue at one point last summer and I seem to remember reaching down in there next to the battery and the cable was loose at the opposite end.

Worth a shot anyways after what you've already been through. It almost sounds like water in the gas type symptoms but you already ruled that out by saying it looses spark when it dies.

At the least, you can eliminate fuel and compression from the equasion. I'd say something electrical and being it is intermitent it could just be a loose connection somewhere. Check all your grounds, wires into the fuse box, wires into the relay box, etc...

I don't know much about the 4.0s but that sounds just like my jeep till one day it wouldn't start anymore so I gave it a viking funeral, set it out to sea with the boat on fire.... jk it WAS doing that and I was lost I replaced damn near everything then ended up replacing my ignition module and that fixed it it now runs good, despite the problem with tuning the sensitive weber carb....

Quick update: Words of wisdom, never over-engineer a situation! The female pins on the weather tight connection to the ignition coil were loose in the connector, never would have found it if I wasnt in there checking my grounds...thanks again ya'll for the advice!
